Slow wsusou install

Slow wsusou install

Postby donfriesen » 14.11.2016, 22:39

First time using Wsusou 10.8 (after Vista sp2 re-install)and after running Update Generator the 'Client' folder showed 2.4 gb. Waiting 4hours and 'installer' still shows "listing ids of updates". Anti-virus and Windows Update Service disabled for the install of updates. Is this a normal wait time to have downloaded updates to install? How long should I wait? Should I do something else? Please advise and thanks for the help.

When did you start the download the last time?
I don't have any problems with wsusou and download after 2016-11-11.

I've had the same and other issues on Win7 SP1.

Issue 1: listing update hangs. Apparently, the July 2016 Rollup is necessary. This update requires an update of the Win7 Servicing Stack (April 2015, September/October 2016 all work).

Issue 2: Installing .NET 4.6.2 does not work without internet connection. This is caused by file/certificate verification of the installer. A bit annoying: installing .NET 4.6.2 using UpdateInstaller.exe without internet connection will make the installer fail (also if connected afterwards). Solution: pre-installing latest certificates (authroot.stl, disallowedcert.stl). If the latest certificates exist on the Windows install, no need for internet connection.

Steppenroller: Thanks very much for the reply. I'll reply after I've tried your suggestions.

I am curious why you itemize for "Issue 2" (about '.net4.6.2' )when I make no mention of it. Thanks.

This method worked for me (search time about 20 minutes in VirtualBox):
<new line means reboot>
- Install CheckSUR (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/947821)
- Install SP1
- Install SP2
- install rootsupd.exe (http://download.windowsupdate.com/msdow ... otsupd.exe) [does not generate any message]
- install WindowsUpdateAgent 7.6.7600.320
-> Download it from these links: http://download.windowsupdate.com/windo ... .6-x86.exe or http://download.windowsupdate.com/windo ... .6-x64.exe
-> use 7-Zip to unpack "WUA-Downlevel.exe" and install that file
- install KB971512 and KB2117917
- install IE9
- install KB3191492
- update C++ using the files inside .\client\cpp
- install .NET 3.5 (.\client\dotnet\dotnetfx35.exe & your languagepack file; a reboot between them may be required)
- install KB969084
- install .NET 4.6 (.\client\dotnet\NDP46-KB3045557-x86-x64-AllOD-ENU.exe & your languagepack file; a reboot between them may be required)
- install KB968930
- install KB3078601, KB3109094, KB3145739, KB3164033, KB3164035, KB3168965, KB3183431, KB3191203
- install KB3185911, KB3193418, KB3194371
- retry wsusou

Aker: Thanks for the response. I actually have already done a lot of these things you've suggested. In no particular order: sp1+2;updated drivers from HP site; installed antivirus(avast); ie9; .Net 1.1, 3, 3.5 + 4.5. I'd have to check about all the KBs. C++ was supposed to be installed with the updates supplied thru WSUSOU, so haven't seen that yet. Right now I'm following thru with Steppenroller's advice and see if I can get WSUSOU working after completing those KB's. Will report back later.

After trying to download "Win7 April Servicing Stack" i got the following response ' does not apply to your system'.

What I've done since your reply
1. Manually install Vista updates (from Technet MS Security Bulletins) April 2015, 2016- July, Sept, Oct, Nov. Some failed with 'does not apply to your system'
2. removed WSUSOU from Computer
3. reinstalled WSUSOU and scanned for updates
4. 'client' folder showing 2.4 gb
5. click to install updates and ...'listing ids for updates' for 8 hrs. (At the same time as this i ran a defrag, which did not complete) ( On another note, when I've run a chkdsk it does not complete after running overnite but stops around 85%)
6.close WSUSOU
WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?

Installing a Windows 7 Rollup on Vista won't help.
Please try installing the updates I listed. Those fixed the problems on all my Vista VMs.

AKER: Did all of your instructions.
Note:Some of your recommendations were for Win7 and failed on my Vista home 32
1. checkSUR - not for Vista
2.
WindowsUpdateAgent 7.6.7600.320
for Win7. I have latest WUA for Vista
3. have .net 4.6
4. was missing one of those KB and have installed it.
5.running WSUSOU to install updates from 'client' folder

Wsusou has run and continues...'listing ids for updates'...over an hour now.
