Error: Medium neither supports your Windows nor your Office

Error: Medium neither supports your Windows nor your Office

Postby anita » 03.08.2016, 03:22

Hello! I'll try to sum the many issues up. I have an original windows 7 home premium SP1 x64. I've been having issues with the WU the middle of June, it hang while searching for updates or trying to install the last found update. I tried many things, nothing worked, a youtube video showing ways to fix the WU linked me to the wsus website which brings me here.
I downloaded it two days ago hoping it could help. So the 1st time I tried it, I ran the updategenerator.exe without problems, after that I opened the client folder, then ran the updateinstaller.exe and after a long time installing all of the updates, it gave me this error:
Medium neither supports your Windows nor your Office version.
It was really late at night, cause it had been downloading for many hours, so I couldn't really look into it. I closed it all and turned off the computer.
Yesterday I started running the updategenerator way earlier but I also clicked other things, imagining maybe my Office wasn't updated, don't know. I selected a few extra updates to download The ones shown on these images http://i.imgur.com/a/xTm1z http://i.imgur.com/a/zg5L1, so this time around it stayed running for way more hours. When it finally finished, I ran the updateinstaller. The process never seemed to end, so I figured I'd go to sleep and let it running cause it was extremely late. The next morning it was showing the log with the exact same error:
- Info: Medium does not support Microsoft Windows (w61 x64 enu)
- Info: Medium does not support Microsoft Office (ofc glb)
- Error: Medium neither supports your Windows nor your Office version
- Info: Ending WSUS Offline Update

I need to be specific though, I didn't delete the wsusoffline1071 file to download it again, extract etc. I used the same folder, simply cause I ignore if this is correct or not. I assumed the updateinstaller would update itself after I ran the updategenerator. I suppose the same issue which suddenly made my windows update stop working correctly is what' could be causing an issue with wsus? Has anyone have any idea what could be going on? I have the complete log if it was necessary. Let me know if I should submit any more details. I have plenty but I don't wanna bring unnecessary data up. I'm desperate to install updates and I'm clueless as to why wsus isn't working either

Is there a folder called "w61-x64" inside the client-folder and does it contain a subfolder with lots of updates?

No, there isn't. Should it be there? Inside the client folder I have these sub-folders:
static
software
opt
exclude
cmd
bin

That's it! Only those 6.

You did run UpdateGenerator before trying to install?
Looks like you configured it, but did not download the updates. For downloading press the "Start"-button in the lower left corner of UpdateGenerator on a system connected to the internet. Then UpdateInstaller should do its job.

Yes I did, and I let it run for hours. Less hours than what it took later on trying to install them, but I did run both of them. First the UpdateGenerator, after it was done, I ran the updateinstaller which gave me the error of the topic title. I have the full log, if it was necessary. Any other reasons you know of besides not running the UpdateGenerator I wouldn't have that w61-x64 folder inside the client folder?

Edit: Could it be those folders go back to like zero after the installation has failed? Cause when it failed the second time I around I stopped trying to do it by myself and decided to post in here, meaning the computer has been rebooted more than once. I dunno what's the behavior of the program. Please let me know if I should try to do it again and following any other steps I didn't the 2 times I tried it . Sorry for my broken English!

UpdateInstaller never deletes content. Only UpdateGenerator deletes superseded updates.
Please post the content of .\UpdateGenerator.ini in [code]-tags here and upload your .\log\download.log somewhere and post a link.

Mostblikely a download failire somewhere, but I wanted to be sure, that the download ran.

Where is the UpdateGenerator.ini? And inside the log folder the only file there is says dummy.txt

That sounds like the download part never ran. Please open UpdateGenerator, configure it as you need and press "Start". A black window should appear and write a lot of lines. Wait until it finished. Then retry installation.

I did run it, not only once but twice, so this is gonna be my 3rd time :/ I saw that window opening too when running it with all those lines (showing the percentage of each download being downloaded). If needed I can take screenshots of it! I'm gonna run it tomorrow though cause the times I ran it it took over 8 hrs to do so and I won't be around to see what's gonna happen, so I rather be awake and on alert to see what does it do. Will the UpdateGenerator.ini be on the main folder after I finish running the updategenerator.exe? On the main folder which contains the updategenerator.exe, the UpdateGenerator.au3 and the subfolders?
