installation hanging on KB2533623 Windows 7 64-bit

Postby Mags » 24.07.2016, 18:58

I've downloaded 200+ updates using wsusoffline, but the installation has hung on the first one - KB2533623. It's been 'installing ...' for well over an hour. I've taken the laptop offline and disabled Kaspersky Total Security.

The installation started well. It quickly ran through a load of checks then verified the integrity of the update. The next two lines state:
hashdeep64.exe: Audit passed
Installing .. \w61-x64\glb\Windows6.1-KB2533623-x64.msu..

Any help or advice would be very much appreicated.

To fix this issue:
Cancel wsusou
Install the file manually (double click)
Reboot
Try again

Thanks for your reply, aker.

Wsus installer eventually installed KB2533623 without any intervention from me, albeit after 2+ hours. After another hour or so later, the installation appeared to be complete without any further problems. However, this morning when I checked, there are only 9 updates out of 200+ installed. I've tried to run wsws install again but second time around, it just installed IE11.

I've tried running windows update again, but it kept going round and round for 2 hours.

I have no idea what to do now. Can anyone help me, please?

You have to run the installer until it says "Nothing to do". If it just installed IE11, it hasn't finished yet. There are about 3 times left. Please reboot the computer and run wsusou again.

Thanks, Aker.

I tried wsus again, but it didn't install anything. On a bit of a long shot, I checked what Windows Update was doing and, without any intervention from me, it was still searching for updates. I set it to never update, but it was still kept going round and round. I found a website which gave a method for stopping it which worked. I then set the installer going again and it downloaded a lot more updates. I've just rebooted the laptop and it's now configuring the updates which is great news!

I don't recall any message saying 'Nothing to do' at the end of the last install, but would like to re-check. Does wsus keep a copy of the install logs, and where do I find them?

Assuming the log doesn't say 'Nothing to do', I'll keep running wsus installation.

Thanks for your help.

The Installer log is in the Windows directory.

Thanks for getting back to me, but which Windows directory?

I've been installing and rebooting the laptop all morning, and wsus has now stopped installing any updates, but I have not seen a 'Nothing to do' message. It has only installed 172 updates out of 241 it downloaded. Also, the log advises there are 14 updates not found.

I've just run Windows update and it has found 77 important updates, none of which are the 14 missing ones.

Any thoughts or advice on next steps would be appreciated.

C:\Windows\wsusofflineupdate.log

The detection methods of wsusou and WU differ, so the updates do, too. Please post a new screenshot of the missing updates listed by wsusou and WU, so we can check them.

Thanks, aker. I seem to have inadvertently resolved the problem! I installed the 77 important updates found via Windows Update and repeated the process until the software didn't find any further updates. I then ran wsus installation again, and this time it found no missing updates and also reported 'Nothing to do'. Hurrah!

Strange thing though, I checked the original missing updates against the list of updates installed and most of them weren't there. Any thoughts on why that might happen?

Also, can I use the updates found by wsus for Windows 7 Professional on a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate or would they be different?

Just saying: I'm currently slipstreaming a Windows 7 DVD; I'll be able to tell you more in a few days.

Without the Update-IDs I'm unable to check them. WU currently does so may strange thing, that most people got a little confused (but just a little ;) ).
