IE Cumulative kb3124275 keeps installing

IE Cumulative kb3124275 keeps installing

Postby jc2009 » 03.06.2016, 03:09

Hi Windows 7 Pro 64b domain joined Lenovo all other updates installing. What is odd is WOU says it installed, repeatedly! The only way is to go online and use MS update. When it does I can see the screens configuring windows updates at shutdown and reboot. When WOU reboots they do not display.

UAC off, local copy of files, says it went in but does not show in list of installed updates. Several machines same issue. We are stuck on IE9 for now as department policy. However it will work if I run from MS directly.

Other logs to check? Thanks for your insight!

Hello jc,

Over the time there were updates here and there showing the same behavior. Because WSUS Offline Update uses update detection functionality implemented by Microsoft, there's not much we can do about this. It could be a failure in the catalog file (wsusscn2.cab) or something else. If you want to get rid of this, you may want to exclude the update from installation (create separate ExcludeList.txt in ./client/exclude/custom).

Another idea: Could it be that this update is blocked in any way in your domain (I'm not domain-experienced, just a guess)? I'm asking, because this update contains a few non-security-related fixes that may disturb the working experience and are not wanted in your environment (see "More information" section in the KB article).

P.S.: What happens, if you try to manually install this update?

Thanks Gerby,

I bumped into the issue while doing 5 new laptops and a desktop fresh from our SCCM build process. No domain restrictions. I was showing a co-worker to keep running the WOU until it said nothing to do! When it kept doing the same patch over and over on each reboot I finally did do it manual. The update will install manually. You can tell it worked because the shutdown and restart will tell you to wait while windows configures updates. It is the last one needed. Once installed manually the WOU script ends clean as it sees it as installed.

Just frustrating. Great tool, thanks!
