how iso file is updating and is copying files on usb usefull

Postby michel » 27.04.2016, 16:50

Hello, I just download "wsusoffline-w61-x64" the last april (one zip).
I had UpdateGenerator and UpdateInstaller (in client file), but I'm asking what about the iso file, how does it works, or how may I use it for what purpose?

I saw inside (thanks to PowerIso) that the same installer exe is in it.
I did not create an usb drive, but only have the whole files on my HDD.

Another question if possible: may I copy the whole files on USB and then update anoter PC this way?
it seems to be obvious for knowing people, sorry despite I read a lot of questions on this forum and I stay stucked about these questions.
Thanks a lot for any advice.

A little less more: is updating by overwriting over with the last new WSUS the correct way?
Best regards
michel

Where did you download the file from?
The official wsusou-files are named "wsusofflineXXX.zip".

For updating the wsusou repository, just start UpdateGenerator and start a download run. If a newer version of wsusou is available, UpdateGenerator will ask you, if you want to update. (It is possible to overwrite an older wsusou with a newer one, too; but why not use the easy auto-update function...)

You may copy the client-folder to any USB-device you want. Also, you may use the integrated "Copy to USB"-feature of UpdateGenerator.

Hello aker
Yes I download the zip on:
http://download.wsusoffline.net/

Thanks for answer, I did not know that :
If a newer version of wsusou is available, UpdateGenerator will ask you, if you want to update.

I understand for "start UpdateGenerator and start a download run" that did already to experiment and succeeded.
But I did not install the uptades because the system is up to date for now. It 's in case of having to reinstall WS 7 if Windows 10 abort, or another one.

I don't know how "use the easy auto-update function" if there is another way to update Zip?
I thought have to go an see if a new version was released!! So I was wrong.

Every files are already copied on USB stick, very usefull to me.
I am french, sorry for my "Old fashionned English" (and lack of many words)
:) regards

As soon as a newer version of wsusou is available, you'll get a message inside UpdateGenerator (when starting the download), asking you, if you want to update wsusou. By clicking "Yes" wsusou will update itself and relaunch UpdateGenerator afterwards. Then you don't need to overwrite anything.
