WSUS Offline - Does not clean up the USB/client directories

WSUS Offline - Does not clean up the USB/client directories

Postby Sonicmojo » 19.11.2015, 19:51

When I restarted using WSUS offline about two months ago - I intitially built my USB directory to contain updates for both Windows 7 AND Windows 10 and let WSUS do it's thing at the time.

But since then - I have dumped WIndows 10 completely and then removed the Windows 10 updates checkbox within the WSUS interfac - thinking it would ditch the Windows 10 directory and all of it's files upon the next update cycle.

But a quick check of my USB directory shows that a bunch of old WIn 10 updates are still sitting there and are coming along for the ride every time I deploy an update either server share or by copying to USB.

Why does WSUS not clean up specific update "families" if I explicitly tell the UI not "not get them" anymore?

wsusou's cleanup feature will just delete superseded updates for OSes you selected. To remove an OS, you have to manually delete the directory.

@WSUSOU: How about a 'Purge' button in the Generator GUI for OSes/Offices, to avoid users poking around in the repos and potentially breaking something in the process?

This is an awesome idea. Due to the complex nature of the folder structure created - I have no desire to start chopping things out at will - not knowing what the end result may be.

Or just consider what I said - when WSUSOU fires up - and I add or remove a checkbox under a specific OS or Office product - the app should do a cleanup right there - or just before we go to create the new distro for the month.

Having this thing possibly stack up a ton of unnecessary files (like in my case) does nothing positive for keeping the update (USB) directory at a reasonable size.
