Trouble installing Security Essentials

Trouble installing Security Essentials

Postby a2218 » 24.08.2015, 21:19

I am running version 9.7 and have Windows 7 on my computer. I tried installing Security Essentials using the command prompt (Update.cmd and DoUpdate.cmd) but it just seems to check the Microsoft Security Essentials installation state and then not install it. If I run the GUI however, Security Essentials gets installed. Any help is much appreciated! Thanks! :D

When calling DoUpdate.cmd with administrative priviledges you need to add the parameter "/instmsse" to install Security Essentials.

Where should I add the parameter?

As it is written - when calling DoUpdate.cmd from the command line.

The GUI is nothing else than a loader that calls the command scripts with the appropriate options. It has even a special checkbox at the bottom, to automatically create a run script with the currently selected things.

I seem to be missing something. Once I open DoUpdate.cmd I am not allowed to type anything in the command prompt. Is it done another way?

Also, is there a way to automatically have it set so that Security Essentials gets installed, if not found in the system, without having to add that parameter every time DoUpdate.cmd is called?

If you open the command prompt and enter "DoUpdate.cmd" to run the script, instead type "DoUpdate.cmd /instmsse".
