How to Include Important/Optional and/or Missing Updates

One more question relating to what you said about the catalog updates being security-relevent. Are there also bug-fixing updates included in the catalog besides just security updates, e.g. updates that fix problems with Windows and programs? (I know this is probably a dumb question, I just want to make sure since I had never heard of WOU until recently, and I have a growing interest in this program.)

Hmm, I ask this as I know that Windows 8.1's updates and Windows 10's cumulative updates supposedly fix bugs, just wondering if those might be available in the catalog, as if they are, then that might mean that updates for XP/Vista/7 include bug fixes in their catalogs as well. And some updates on the MS Download Center have the description of "Install this update to resolve issues in Windows" and have more information in the KB article. I just wonder if these are included in the catalog as they may be considered mandatory or important.

8.1 cumulative updates always had to be included by static definitions.

Hi guys, thanks @MyLifeIsTech for your post, I was trying to find a way to achieve this myself and saw your post.
I don't wanna hijack your post but opening another would be useless.

Calabs' list hasn't been updated for a while and I need something up to date each month.
I can get the .msu optional files myself and already tried to include them in the ..\client\static\custom\.. folders.
The problem is the optional updates seem to get installed before WSUSOU's critical updates and a lot throw a "-2145124329" error code.
which would be "-2145124329 WU_E_NOT_APPLICABLE Operation was not performed because there are no applicable updates."

Is this normal behavior or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks guys

To Kiktelos

I'm not sure if that's normal for WOU, as I am fairly new to the program myself, so the mods or developers will have to look into that, however, I have found a bit of information about the error code you mentioned.

Go here: http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/archive/wi ... _codes.htm and press Control + F, and search for your error code, you will get the following result:

"0x80240017 -2145124329 SUS_E_NOT_APPLICABLE install is not needed because no updates are applicable"

There's also this forum talking about it: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Fo ... gmgrswdist

From what I can gather, either the optional updates aren't applicable to your computer, whether that be because they're already installed either from Windows Update or a Service Pack, or you're missing some prerequisites for the particular updates. That or something else, the moderators here may be able to give you more information. Also, you can try searching for your error code 2145124329 on Google, you may find more information than I did. (When you search for the code, be sure to remove the hyphen(-) from the beginning.)

Might be caused by a newer update being already installed on the system.

If update A supersedes update B and update A is installed, wsusou will try to install update B (if it's a static definition) and this error will be caused as update B is not listed as installed.

As there is no official list created by MS, it is impossible to dynamically list all optional updates.

An update on including optional updates: it works

Like Aker said, there is no way for WSUSOU to dynamically list all optional updates, so it ends up installing some of the "added static updates" over and over again.
But in the end, if I stop it, they are all installed and not much is missing if I run Windows Update.

I guess this is as good as it can be to install almost all available updates.

Thanks for the help guys.
