How to Include Important/Optional and/or Missing Updates

How to Include Important/Optional and/or Missing Updates

Postby MyLifeIsTech » 09.08.2015, 01:23

Just as the title asks, how would one go about telling WOU to include all Important/Optional updates? Also, how would we know what updates are missing, and how to get WOU to download them? Surely there's some other catalog that Microsoft uses to specify Important/Optional updates, as well as the ones that WOU misses.

Please reply soon, thank you.

wsusou just includes security relevant updates, and as MS does not provide a catalog including all optional updates, it is impossible to include all optional updates. A user named "Cababs" created a list of optional updates, you cound find here: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4182

Thanks for the response, so to my understanding, Microsoft does not have a catalog available for Important/Optional updates, therefore it is impossible for WOU to download and install all of these updates, though a user by the name of Cababs is (maintaining?) a list of optional updates that can be imported into WOU. Is this correct?

Also, given that you said security relevant, does WOU still download the Windows 8.1 updates, such as Update 1(April) August, and November updates?

1) Yes, that's right.

2) The Windows 8.1 April/November 2014 update are handled as Service Packs as they are required for newer updates to be installed. They will be installed (if they are not) before wsusou dynamically searches for updates.

One more question I just thought of. If they are included in the catalog file, does WOU also download newly released features for Windows? Such as when Windows Search 4.0 came out for XP and Vista?

A few optional updates are included (e.g. the Windows Update Cleanup for the Disk Cleanup Wizard on Windows 7). Also new versions of the Internet Explorer or Silverlight are "optional".

I'm assuming the updates mentioned, e.g. Silverlight are included with WOU?

They get downloaded using static download links (as there is no catalog containing them).
