ERROR: Unsupported Operating System < x64>

Postby davidg » 04.08.2016, 10:13

Hi,

So I downloaded the Windows 7 x64 update package, because this is the OS i run on. The updates where downloaded properly, but when I try to install the updates (UpdateInstaller) the following error message is returned:

------------------------
Starting WSUS Offline Update (v. 10.7.2) at 11:14:18,08...
Checking user's privileges...
Determining system's properties...

ERROR: Unsupported Operating System ( x64).

Ending WSUS Offline Update at 11:14:18,31...

C:\Users\dagradmin\Downloads\wsusoffline1072\wsusoffline\client\cmd>

------------------------

What am I doing wrong ? Why can't I install the updates?

Please advise!

BR,
David

Looks like some broken Windows component as wsusou wasn't able to determine your OS.
Please run the file .\client\cmd\DetermineSystemsProperties.vbs and post the content of the file WOUSystemProperties.txt here (created on your desktop).

Hi Aker,

Thanks for the swift feedback.
So it doesn't allow me to run this script. I doubleclick on the icon DetermineSystemProperties press Open, but it returns an error message (originally on another language than English but loosely translated):

Line: 404
Sign: 1
Error: THe service could not be started because it is deactivated or because there are no activated units attached
Code: 80070422
Source: (null)

Please open a CMD-Window with administrator rights and change to your WSUSOU directory, then type:
Code: Select all
.\client\cmd\DetermineSystemProperties.vbs

Hi.

WOU needs the WMI service.

In a command shell, please execute
Code: Select all
sc query winmgmt

This should return
Code: Select all
SERVICE_NAME: winmgmt
        TYPE               : 20  WIN32_SHARE_PROCESS
        STATE              : 4  RUNNING
                                (STOPPABLE, PAUSABLE, ACCEPTS_SHUTDOWN)
        WIN32_EXIT_CODE    : 0  (0x0)
        SERVICE_EXIT_CODE  : 0  (0x0)
        CHECKPOINT         : 0x0
        WAIT_HINT          : 0x0

If not, you'll have to adjust the service to be able to use WOU.

Excellent! At least I got my WMI to start... didn't know it was even disabled.
Now we will see if my WIN6.1 x64 will update.

I have used this tool on multiple occasions and it is wonderful.
Thanks WSUS!

Could you post a screenshot of the cmd-window and post it here?
