The installer is located at .\client\UpdateInstaller.exe

thanks, i re-did a download of updates using wsus program. this time i saved with "usb medium" to a folder of my choice.
then i went to this folder and did see the updateinstaller and have clicked on it.
another command window opened and it is doing some installations.
this copy of windows 7 is about a year old, and i would think there are a number of security updates.
perhaps they are contained in a service pack.
on the command window it shows it has 9 updates. i would think there would be more.

doesnt the wsus program show what updates it recommends so we can pick and choose ?
i have a clean hdd with a new install of windows 7.

any other windows updates software around that shows what the updates are
it shows now that 5 updates installed, after running updateinstaller once and it did a restart.

does this sound normal?
any other programs that update windows 7 can anyone recommend?

Ok, I now am in the process of installing 148 updates, now up to 119...
it seems i had to do a couple preliminary updates to get to the mother load.

i have installed a bunch of updates. it also wanted to update IE8 to IE 11. seems like it took a while longer to reboot. not sure if that was the updates being installed on one of the reboots or IE 11 was slowing it down. so far on this fresh install i do not have the anti virus up and running. still farting around with these updates.

So your system still hangs at the reboot, correct?
How long did it already take?

No, it seems to be installing them now. i think i have about 169 critical updates so far.
windows 7 seems not to be able to go to the ms website and access and find the applicable updates.
however once wsus runs, nad the updateinstaller runs, then i can see them in windows updates for installation.
so it is working satisfactorilly. even if a little bit round a bout.

The problem is, that MS messed up the update detection of Win 7 (both WU & wsusscn2.cab). Nearly every second month, we have to create a new workaround, to make wsusou search updates in 2 hours instead of 2 days.
