MS download changes 2016-04-22 ?

Postby skhall » 22.04.2016, 23:00

Per Microsoft's Security Bulletin Release note today:

Effective as of the May 2016 security bulletin release, all Windows
updates will be available only via the Microsoft Update Catalog
(http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/), and will no longer be
available on the Microsoft Download Center
(http://download.microsoft.com/). Making the updates available
from only one location simplifies the process for our customers
of finding and downloading security updates.

Is this change going to affect WSUS Offline?

Maybe. The security relevant update will still be downloaded from MS using wsusscn2.cab (contains the links from the Update Catalog); maybe the static ones will be affected, if MS decides to deletes the files from download.microsoft.com.
We'll have to wait and see...

Links can be gathered from the catalog as well, at most we have to change some static ones.
Microsoft update catalog: http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/
Windows Install media download: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/15088/windows-create-installation-media

I very much hope that this new Microsoft policy is not going to affect us. Please keep us users up to date regarding this issue. Thanks
