NEWS for the Linux download scripts, version 2.7

Release date: 2022-01-13
Development branch: master
Supported version: WSUS Offline Update, Community Edition 12.6.1 hotfix1

Bug fixes

  • Better handling of filenames with spaces, thanks to mani

The URLs in the file ../static/StaticDownloadLinks-win-glb.txt used to be percent-encoded, e.g. spaces in the filename were replaced with %20. This was changed in Community Edition 12.6.1, and now spaces are used literally.

The necessary changes for the Linux scripts are already included in Community Edition 12.6.1 hotfix1.

Internal changes

  • The files StaticUpdateIds-BuildUpgrades.txt and StaticUpdateIds-BuildUpgradesForced.txt are used for the calculation of superseded updates
  • The files OptionList.txt and OptionList-wildcard.txt are updated from GitLab
  • Obsolete files from restructuring of C++ and .NET 5 updates are removed
  • Last traces of Silverlight are removed
  • Cosmetics

Fix possible permission error with lost+found directory

Postby hbuhrmester » 14.01.2022, 09:38

The Linux download scripts 2.7 should also fix a possible permission error with the "lost+found" directory, which was reported in the Bugtracker at GitLab:

https://gitlab.com/wsusoffline/bugtracker/-/issues/44

I don't exactly know, why the lost+found directory should appear within the wsusoffline installation directory, but maybe it is a clever way, to synchronize the wsusoffline/client directory with an external drive:

Usually, the Windows script CopyToTarget.cmd or the Linux script copy-to-target.bash can be used to synchronize the wsusoffline/client directory with an external drive.

But in Linux, the external drive could also be mounted directly into the wsusoffline or the wsusoffline/client directory. Then the updates are written directly to the external drive.

If there is a lost+found directory on that drive, then this directory would appear within the wsusoffline directory. Then it may cause a permission error, if the wsusoffline directory is searched with the command find.

This should now be prevented by replacing the find command with a list of known dummy files, which are cleaned up by the shell itself.

Best regards
