OK sorry in advance if I missed the explainaintion in a previous post, but in real simple terms is there a reason why after applying WSUS 8.6 updates for Win XP (32-bit) I go to Microsoft's update site and WSUS 8.6 missed 126 recommended updates??
End of support is just around the corner for this awesome OS and I'm sure I will be using it past April 2014.
Thanks in advance for any help or insight.

But 126 sound too high, the last time I tested this several months ago it was in the 40-50 range.
Are these all updates for Windows or does this number also contain Office updates?

Agreed 126 seemed too high to me as well. I applied WSUS 8.6 to a fresh Win XP Pro SP3 install. Nothing was installed on system prior to WSUS 8.6 but the initial drivers. Dell Optiplex model btw.
Thx-

Agreed, XP is a decent OS. But what I wonder is why the update scheme can't fully scan the target PC then get all the needed patches -and for convenience sake-
put the relevant patches into folders during download as many of us love to make updated install media and this would help.
Thanks, Don

WSUSOU is for creating universal media to (security-)update multiple PCs, independently from the patch level. It is not meant for creating targeted ISOs.
Additionally, MS doesn't provide the URLs for all patches, only for the security related ones.

The October 2013 issue had a few necessary ones which my offline indicated nothing needed to be done. If this only checks for criticals, why didn't they happen?

MS is the one determining what is security-related and what isn't. If they do not deem it security-related, it won't be in WSUSSCN2.CAB, and then it won't be downloaded by WSUSOU's dynamic feature. Of course you can add them as static updates yourself if you want to.
For a test: If the
MBSA says the system is up-to-date then WSUSOU works correctly.
