Missing security updates for Vista SP2 x86?

Missing security updates for Vista SP2 x86?

Postby friday123 » 13.03.2013, 00:01

Hi, thanks for continuing to work on this tool and make it available to everyone. I recently downloaded WSUS Offline Update 8.2 and used it to create an ISO with the security updates for 32-bit Windows Vista. I installed Windows Vista in a VM, network adapter disabled, and then mounted the security update ISO and ran your updater.

After the updater completed I turned on the network adapter and opened Windows Update and had it check for updates. The first Windows Update check failed with PTError 0x80244015. I ran the updater again and it succeeded and told me I was missing a few non-security updates as expected. It also told me I was missing two security updates for .NET.

After installing all those checked updates I rebooted and ran Windows Update again. It told me I was missing two more security updates.

Is this to be expected? I thought the offline updater installed all security updates. Thanks

Regarding security updates for .NET 3.0 SP2: KB2656362 and KB2756919, Does it have something to do with the order the updates are installed?

The other two security updates KB2797052 and KB2658846 both seem to be related to IE9. Is there any way to include IE9, or if not that then just its security updates?

I have a virtual machine snapshot at the point after I ran WSUS Offline Update but before I connected the computer to the internet and ran Windows Update. If you need me to try anything or need any type of log or anything let me know. I'm running Vista Ultimate x86 SP2 retail in VMWare Workstation 7, installed using ISO en_windows_vista_with_sp2_x86_dvd_342266.iso.

No, tried everything. Running manual install of the .msu files (D/L Center) told me the updates wouldn't be applicable to the system, yet the very same updates install fine over MU in any order. Go figure...

IE 7/8/9/10 are all handled by WSUSOU already (installers statically and security updates dynamically). With those two I never has a problem on the test systems (they are included independently of IE installers and installed if required).
