Heya. I made an account just to report this oddity.
I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit. I ran a few updates in the past using WSUS without issue (using the reboot and recall function), but the other day I tried another and it got stuck in a reboot loop. "Windows is loading files..." and then the bios splash screen, over and over forever. After trying a few things out (that all proved to be absolutely useless) I decided to try enabling "ultra fast startup" in my bios. That got me logged in to the temp account WSUS sets up, and the updates continued as normal. But when they were done and it was time to restart, it sent me to the startup repair screen. Sometimes it failed, sometimes it was a success, but almost every time I restarted it brought me to this screen. When it succeeded, it brought me back to the WSUS account and started the previous process over. I googled around and was brought to this old topic (viewtopic.php?f=4&t=3258) that proved extremely useful. I ran the .cmd it said to, and it allowed me to log into my normal account, and I immediately came here to write this.
Is there anything I should be wary of? I want to make a system restore point, but first I want to rid myself of any potential useless bloat, like uninstalled updates or whatever else. The power options, for example. I had to switch that back to my default. Or maybe I'm just fretting over nothing. I don't know too much about any of this stuff.
Anyway, I just wanted to make this weird thing known to the developers or whoever reports to them. Cheers!
