ausschließliche Installation des Monthly Rollups in Win7

Hallo,

nach längerer Pause habe ich nochmals ein Win 7 HP neu als VM aufgesetzt. Habe dazu alle SU und sonstige Updates bis einschließlich dem letzten SSU geslipstreamt und wollte anschließend mittels wsusou 1. überprüfen, ob was fehlt und 2. die "restlichen Updates" (WMI 5.1, SHA-2 code signing support, .Net 4.8 sowie die letzten Monthly Rollups für Windows und .Net 3.5.1) installieren. Obwohl ich im Updateinstaller das Kästchen für "Sec Only"" nicht gesetzt hatte, wurden dennoch 29 Sec-Only-Updates und das kummulative IE 11 Update (sowie 3 Zeitzonenupdates) installiert. Also 33 überflüssige Updates.

Wenn es gelingt, durch Aktivierung von "Sec Only" die Installation des Monthly Rollups zu unterdrücken, müsste es doch im umgekehrten Fall möglich sein, die Installation der "Sec Only" zu unterdrücken. Oder ist dies so nicht vorgesehen? Bei .Net 3.5.1 hats funktioniert, hier wurde tatsächlich nur das letzte Rollup, nicht aber die (gefühlt) zwei Dutzend Sec Only installiert.

Liegt das Problem im WUA oder in wsusou?

Es ist meiner Meinung nach tatsächlich ein Bug in WSUS Offline Update.

Als die monatlichen Update Rollups und Security-only Updates im November 2016 eingeführt wurden, haben die Update Rollups die Security-only Updates "superseded", also ersetzt. Normalerweise werden auf diese Weise veraltete Updates durch neuere ersetzt, aber in diesem Fall war es so, dass die kumulativen Update Rollups die Security-only Updates für denselben Monat ersetzt haben.

WSUS Offline Update berechnet von sich aus superseded Updates und lädt veraltete Updates normalerweise nicht herunter. Für den Standardfall mussten also keinen neuen Regeln eingeführt werden – die Security-only Updates wurden als angeblich "veraltete" Updates sowieso nicht heruntergeladen. Nur das letzte kumulative Update Rollup für den jeweiligen Monat wurde heruntergeladen und installiert.

Microsoft hat diese Regeln aber nach nur einem Monat wieder abgeschafft. Die kumulativen Update Rollups superseden die Security-only Updates nicht mehr. Seitdem ist es so, dass tatsächlich beide Sätze heruntergeladen werden: das letzte kumulative Update und alle inkrementellen Security-only Updates.

Allerdings weiß ich auch nicht, wie man das nun wieder anders machen kann. Die Idee mit WSUS Offline Update war ja einmal, dass man alle benötigten Informationen automatisch aus des WSUS-Katalogdatei wsusscn2.cab extrahieren kann. Aber das funktioniert offenbar kaum noch.

Für den Download magst du recht haben. Aber es geht Jonas doch um die Installation. Und da sehe ich nicht, wie WSUS Offline der Grund sein sollte, dass SecOnly-Updates installiert werden, wenn /seconly nicht angegeben wurde (nur für diesen Fall sind die SecOnly-Updates ja statisch definiert). Der Grund kann IMO nur darin liegen, dass der WUA diese anfordert, weil er sie als fehlend deklariert.

Die benötigten Informationen sind eigentlich alle vorhanden:

Die kumulativen Update Rollups stehen in der Datei client/exclude/HideList-seconly.txt.

Die inkrementellen Security-only updates für Windows 7 stehen in der Datei client/static/StaticUpdateIds-w61-seconly.txt.

Das Format der beiden Dateien ist identisch: Es sind komma-getrennte Dateien mit einer kb-Nummer und einer Beschreibung.

Wenn security-only Updates gewählt sind, dann wird die Datei HideList-seconly.txt auf zwei Arten verwendet:

  • Sie wird als zusätzliche ExcludeList für den Download verwendet, damit die kumulativen Update Rollups nicht heruntergeladen werden.
  • Sie wird während der Installation als HideList verwendet, um diese Updates vor dem Windows Update Agent zu verstecken. Dies verhindert Fehlermeldungen über fehlende Updates während der Installation.

Wenn security-only Updates nicht gewählt sind, dann müsste die Datei StaticUpdateIds-w61-seconly.txt genauso eingesetzt werden:

  • Als zusätzliche ExcludeList während des Downloads
  • Als zusätzliche HideList während der Installation

Auf diese Weise schließen sich Update Rollups und Security-only Updates gegenseitig aus.


Manuell könnte man es auf die folgende Art probieren, entsprechend der Anleitung "Kann ich Updates vom Download und/oder der Installation ausschließen" in der Datei doc/faq-deu.txt:

Man kopiert die Datei client/static/StaticUpdateIds-w61-seconly.txt nach client/exclude/custom und benennt sie um in ExcludeList.txt. Das verhindert nicht den Download, aber die Installation.

Sobald die kumulativen Update Rollups einmal installiert sind, werden die Security-only Updates wahrscheinlich nicht mehr als fehlend gemeldet.

Nachtrag: Wenn man den Download ebenfalls verhindern will, könnte man eine Datei exclude/custom/ExcludeList-w61-x64.txt oder exclude/custom/ExcludeListForce-all.txt anlegen und dort nur die kb-Nummern eintragen, also die erste Spalte aus der Datei StaticUpdateIds-w61-seconly.txt.

Das Windows-Skript DownloadUpdates.cmd erlaubt in diesen Dateien keine Kommentare.

Ich sehe das nicht als Bug.
Wenn /seconly nicht angegeben wird, entscheidet Microsoft per WUA und Katalog, was installiert wird, wie früher und für Windows 10 ja auch.
Wenn dabei ein "security only" Update angefordert wird, dann ist es vielleicht ein Fehler, geschieht vielleicht aber auch aus gutem Grund - ich möchte hier jedenfalls keinen Ausschluss verantworten.

Hallo,
ich habe die Lösung für mich gefunden. Sie ist im 4. der von hbuhrmester angegebenen Links (...More-on-Windows-7-and-Windows-8-1-servicing-changes...) enzhalten: "... Starting in December 2016, the security only updates will not be applicable for installation on the PC if a monthly rollup (from the current or future month) is already installed." Ich habe also das letzte Windows-Rollup KB4507449 installiert mit der Folge, dass wsusou weder ein SecOnly noch das kum. IE11 Update installiert:

Dass wsusou das Rollup ein zweites mal installieren wollte, nehme ich als Schönheitsfehler hin. Ich sass während der Installation leider nicht vor der Kiste, sodass ich nicht sagen kann, ob es Fehlerhinweise gab. Im Protokoll ist keiner aufgeführt. In der Liste der installierten Updates ist das Rollup jedoch weiterhin zeitlich an der gleichen Stelle platziert, an der es vor wsusou stand.

Ich bin mit dem Laptop, für den ich den ganzen Zirkus mache, vor kurzen zum allererstenmal ins Internet gegangen (nach Backup und Löschung aller persönlicher Daten), um ein Upgrade auf Win 10 zu machen. Davor habe ich natürlich Windows-Update aufgerufen. Mir wurden zwei Updates angeboten, das ebenfalls von wsusou installierte Zeitzonenupdate und ein Update, mit dem Window$ auf das nahe Ende von Win7 verweist. Also keine SecOnlys, deren Insatllation ich seit Anfang 2017 ausschlossen habe. Thorstens Sorge, dass bei Anwendung ausschließlich der Rollups etwas fehlen könnte, halte ich somit für nicht begründet.

Bleibt noch die (für mich nun nur noch rhetorische) Frage, warum beim ersten Versuch zwar alle Windows-SecOnlys, aber keine .Net 3.5.1-SecOnlys installiert wurden.

PS: Das Upgrade hat zwar funktioniert, jedoch waren im Gerätemanager jede Menge gelber Ausrufezeichen - nicht wegen fehlender Treiber (die hatte ich vorher bereitgestellt), sondern wegen fehlender Ressourcen: Die betroffenen Geräte meldeten, ich solle gefälligst andere Geräte deaktivieren, um das Gerät verwenden zu können. Betroffen waren u.a. die Grafik, alle Netzgeräte und sogar Teile des Chipsatzes). Daher der Entschluss, mit Win7 auf diesem Laptop (2007 mit WinXP gekauft) weiter zumachen. Ein im gleichen Zeitraum gekaufter Laptop mit dem gleichen Chipsatz, aber mit Vista ausgestattet, hat das Upgrade geklappt.
