I was wondering if there is a way to have a basic install of WSUS..?

I find that WSUS fixes the standard windows updater when it just loops into a " checking for updates"

just enff to fix the windows update program...

It's possible, but you have to do it manually. Depending on the OS you're using there are different so-called scan prerequisite updates that fix the "checking for updates" issue. See my site for the KB numbers and some background info; you can also look up the KB numbers in WSUS Offline's client\static\StaticUpdateIds-wupre-w*.txt files (be sure to choose the one that matches your OS).

But I have to ask: Why don't you install all available security updates using WSUS Offline Update? I mean, isn't this much more comfortable to use?

thanks Dalai for your reply

I just wanted a small (data size) version of WSUS...

I carry a usb with me and wanted to keep the data use down a bit...

it was just to fix the issue of windows updates looping.. as this wsus seems to reslove

otherwise I would need to carry 10GB of updates with me... Id like to carry the updates to fix windows wsus (if that makes sence)
