I'm in the process of installing my downloaded updates and it has been on KB3172605 for over 2 hours now.

The Lines says:
Installing ..\w61-x64\glb\windows6.1-kb3172605-x64_2bb9bc55f347eee34b1454b50c436eb6fd9301fc.msu...
with a blinking cursor after

Is this normal?

Try the following (fixes about 99% of the hanging computers):
- cancel wsusou by closing the cmd-window
- set Windows Update to "Never search for updates"
- reboot
- retry wsusou
<continue until wsusou reports "Nothing to do">
- set Windows Update to the previous setting

Do you have either KB3020369 or KB3177467 update installed?

You can not install KB3172605 unless either one of the updated servicing stack updates are installed.
