Hey, i have win8 installed on my laptop MSI GT70 0ne, and im facing problem with using win update, my update stays at 0kb downaloaded/0% downloaded all the time, been up like this for hours. Also, im doing trying to update on fresh win8. Is there a way to use WSUS on win8? Only options i see are win7/8.1/10 and 2k, tried doing update through WSUS on 8.1 but it didnt want to work.

The Windows 8.0 support of wsusou has been removed due to the MS lifecycle policy.

I'd suggest you to install a prepacked Update-pack and then upgrade to 8.1 as 8.0 isn't secure anymore.

This one uses wsusou as its base. The download page is in German, but the pack itself will support English as wsusou does so.

Hello.

I understand why you have discontinued support for Windows 8, but I would like to ask you to reconsider this given the following scenario that I'm going through right now:

A PC that was originally Windows 8 and that had been upgraded to 8.1 has a total hard disk failure. A new hard drive is installed and recovery media is obtained from the manufacturer of the PC. Unfortunately, the recovery media installs Windows 8 (and NOT 8.1) on the machine. So, the user has to install close to 200 Windows Updates before being offered the chance to upgrade to Windows 8.1. Isn't this a scenario where WSUS Offline would be a valuable tool?

I appreciate your consideration of this suggestion.

Maybe your PC manfacturer offers a 8.1 installation medium, but that might not be free of charge.

However, you can download the 8.1 ISO from Microsoft and do a fresh (and clean!) install on your system. Since the Product Key is embedded in the BIOS/UEFI, you should be able to install Windows without having to enter any Product Key.
