I'm trying to update a freshly installed windows vista old notebook.

I followed first step to download all needed files.

Then I launched installer command from "client" subdirectory.
Procedure seems to install various files.
But then, when it tries to install ".NET Framework 4.6.1"... well something seems going wrong...
All process seems stuck and installation progress bar doesn't move anymore.

Is this a known issue?
How can I solve it?

4.6 was the last version that could be put on VISTA.

This information may be in error, if server 2008 SP2 supports installation why should Vista be excluded?

And why wsusoffline offers .NET 4.6.1 if my install session is for windows vista sp2?

It would be better if wsusol offered right .NET framework version, that supported by system we are going to "push" updates in.
If I'm going to update "Vista-32bit SP2" and I select also .NET, I expect right .NET version, compatible with my target system...
So, it would be great if It was possible to choose .NET 4.6 instead of 4.6.1...
Am I wrong? Or I well understood how it works?

I have two VMs with Vista in 32 and 64 Bit. On 64Bit there was no problem to install dotnet 461, on 32Bit just the german language pack install failed with errorlevel 5100. A manual install succeeded later.

So it's a "no-prob"?

For Vista you may have to revert to dotnet 460 - although 461 installs it does not seem to get updates. On my Win7x64 system I have at least two updates installed.
Please verify this.

Also it's interesting, that WU on Vista reports .NET 4.5.2 as optional update, while Win 7 reports .NET 4.6.1.

Seen that as well. Strange there's not 4.6 offered. Test with 4.6 in Vista shows it receives updates (8 updates after install).

Yes, will fix and go back to v. 4.6 for Vista.
