Clean Up Download Directories

Clean Up Download Directories

Postby Jewelie » 21.07.2015, 23:31

My first post - And let me say - Many Thanks for creating and supporting such a helpful program... :D

I have had a look around the forum for information on missing / removed option box and cannot seem find the answer I am looking for. I really hope this has not already been answered, although I expect it has already been covered somewhere on here.

First time I have updated my wsusoffline program in just over a year [from v9.3.1 June 2014 to v9.7] and I notice there have been a few changes in the front end "Generator" options, we are now missing the "Clean up download directories" option box.

My client folder currently weighs in at 23GB worth of accumulated updates / fixes / patches etc, this would normally get a bit of a clean out every so often and the tick box would make this very easy to accomplish. With the option to clean up now gone / removed, how do we tidy up / clean up these directories of redundant patches, is there any other way to achieve this without starting from scratch and re-downloading gigabytes worth of patches again?

Another issue would be the gradual increasing ISO size due to possible inclusion of redundant files whilst compiling / creating ISO?

After downloading each of the last few archive wsusoffline zip files in turn, I see the clean up tick box was removed between version 9.42 and 9.51. Would I break anything in my directory structure if I temporarily replaced the UpdateGenerator.exe file with the one from v9.42 and ran the program with the "Clean up download directories" option box ticked or...

Is there another way to do this without swapping UpdateGenerator.exe files, are there plans to reintroduce this option in a future version?

Just search for the line
Code: Select all
Cleanup=
in UpdateGenerator.ini and make sure, it is says
Code: Select all
Cleanup=Enabled
. If no, just set it to that value.

@aker
You describe the USB medium option "Clean up target directory", which is still present at the GUI.

@Jewelie
Look at your UpdateGenerator.ini file for
Code: Select all
[Options]
cleanupdownloads=Enabled
Since WSUSOU 9.5 this is the default, if the key isn't present.

Thanks to @aker for the suggestion of settings in UpdateGenerator.ini and thanks to @harry for the solution.

Should have figured this out by myself that all settings are controlled from the ini file - did not have the right brain installed, or it just needed a reboot :roll:

Changed UpdateGenerator.ini settings as suggested by @harry and everything worked as I wanted it to...

@harry
Code: Select all
[Options]
cleanupdownloads=Enabled

Ran program, fetched in latest updates, auto deleted redundant files in the process - cleared out about 2.5GB worth of redundant updates so far. Win7 and Win8.1 discs now looking a bit lighter in size.

Cheers guys for a simple straightforward solution
