Updates installation speed

Hello.

First post here.

I have a question regarding WSUS Offline speed while instaling updates. Is it me or does it seem to be slower than common MS Windows Update?

I am saying this because a friend of mine updated an older slower Atom netbook and the process took a whooping 6 hours!!!

I am now installing patches for Windows XP on an also older Acer Aspire 3500 laptop (Celeron, single-core, 768 MB RAM, slow SiS chipset, crappy 64MB SiS onboard VGA). The process is taking a lot of time in the "checkid for missing ids..." and it hasn't even started yet. I don't know how much it will take but I hope it won't be 6 hours.

Question: Is there any way to speed up the process?

Ok. It took about 1-2h to install 172 updates. Not bad. Anyway if anyone can come up with some speed optimizing options, please advice.

Mainly depends on computer speed, installed OS, previously installed updates, kind of update (a SP needs more time then a "normal" update) and additional options you select.
