Installing Cumulative Update prior to scanning for patches

Hi

Just to let you know that it's no longer necessary to install the Cumulative Update for IE prior to scanning for patches anymore. A lot of superceded patches were removed from wsusscn2.cab and it took less than 2 minutes for a newly-built XP machine to check for patches.

Thanks

Dan

I think it is still required.
The problem did not occur because no new cumulative IE-update was released this patchday.

A freshly installed system would have to check all these superseded updates unless M$ has done something in the update database to instantly mark them as superseded.

OK, well take this how you will. However, my XP image is missing 1.5 years of patches and during WSUS Offline's first run having commented out "set WUSCN_PREREQ_ID=2898785" in SetTargetEnvVars.cmd, it took only a few minutes to list missing updates.
