Hi,

do you mean Server 2000?
Anyway: If you get this error on one machine where the same update medium works fine on another one, this may be caused by a medium and/or drive problem.

I should have been more specific in my earlier post. the exact message I see is...C:\temp\....win\glb\rootsupd.exe is not a valid Win32 application.

Usually that error is shown if an executable is compiled to require a certain OS version at a minimum. Rootsupd is for WinXP or higher and has a minimum requirement for kernel 5.1 encoded in its header.

The question is: Why is the other machine working? Either you did attempt to install a slightly older version of rootsupd there (with requirement for 5.0 in the header), or that machine has received some servicing/kernel revision update before.

Compare the Details (revision) of the following files:

%windir%\system32\kernel32.dll
%windir%\system32\ntoskernel.exe

Which version of WSUS OU are you using?

Bear in mind you will need to use an older version for full Windows 2000 compatibility.
