I am having issues with the UpdateInstaller which I have on my USB stick.
I downloaded all the MS Patches and had it saved onto the USB stick but whenever I run this, it just hangs and does not do anything.
This issues is on my laptop with version 7.2 running Windows 7.
On my desktop PC, it does work.
Firewall is disabled, but still the same issue on my laptop.

It stays like this below for an hour and even after an hour, does not do nothing....

Please help - thx.

Code: Select all
Checking state of service 'automatic updates'...
Starting service 'automatic updates' (wuauserv)...
Verifying integrity of Windows Update catalog file...
hashdeep.exe: Audit passed

a while)...

Ok, now it did its thing as shown below.
But what usually would cause such a huge delay on the laptop?
Please explain.
Maybe its the low memory as I have 2GB of memory on the laptop and 4GB on the desktop PC.

So, what usually would cause this big delay?

As I posted before, it stopped at the "Listing ids of missing updates (please be patient, this will take
a while)..." for about an hour and then now continued installed the updates.

Hello Darpa and welcome!

The following may be the cause of this great delay:
\doc\faq-enu.txt wrote:Q: The determination of "superseded updates" takes more than 15 minutes. How can I speed it up?
A: Some Anti-Virus-Scanners (especially "Microsoft Security Essentials" (MSSE)) retard the required calculations. You may temporarily disable your AV scanner or define an appropriate exception.

Greetings
Gerby

What kind of Antivirus is installed on the Laptop?
M$ Antivirus and GDATA are known for excessive delays in the Update determination phase.

I have Mcafee Virus Scan but I do not want to disable it.
What settings can I check that is related to the delays of these updates in my Antivirus scanner?

Hi!

Didn't we have these AV-scanner-related performance problems only at the download side?

What's the hardware configuration of this computer?

Can you temporarily switch to "ON DEMAND"?

The actual downloading of the updates runs just fine using the UpdateGenerator.exe.
Its the UpdateInstaller.exe that has the delays WITH the antivirus backround enabled.

But I MUST have this enabled all the time though.

My notebook has only 2GB of RAM memory
Processor: 1.73Ghz
Windows 7 SP1

Next WSUSOffline version that will support most AV programs?

Hi,

I was wondering if there will be a next version of WSUSOffline that will function normally with most Antivirus programs.
Please see my post regarding this here below.

Great delays are experienced when the UpdateInstaller is executed and hangs for at least 1 hour which unacceptable.

Will there be any fixes for this issue in the upcoming versions?

Thanks.

There have already been modifications to improve the situation, but so far only in trunk releases (#331 and #340). To test these changes, you need to use the trunk release in favor of the stable one.
