new user getting started

Hi all

just found wsus offline & It seemed to be just what I was loking for. I want to download all the updates availabe for xp since sp3 but i dont want each xp machine i th 100 user network all hogging our internet conection to download buckets of updates.

I launch the program "update generator" and select xp but now matter how many times I try I always get some error message. i fill in the usb field giving the adress to a folder on my external HDD and the wget runs and appears to be working but then an error ocurs. I have tried diferent computers running xp but no joy. I have had a search online but found no step by step guide.

The interface looks simple as in click xp, but I suppose im missing something so could any one perhaps point me to an instruction document for this program. I have included 2 log files here.

Yeah I have chose the save to usb option and also left it the default option but it seems no matter what i do on whci machine i get mowt but error messages. I just thought it would be tick xp, get all updates and then all the updates would be saved to disk etc.

Try the latest version 6.9.
Do you have direct, unrestricted access to the internet or are you behind a proxy ?
Do you operate from a user account with admin rights ?
Have you placed the wsusoffline folder directly at the desktop ?
->Better place it under c:\ or d:\

It looks like WOU is not able to download anything - either blocked by policy/firewall or missing internet access data.

Yes i have direct access to the net and tried this without any proxy, I have full admin access on my home computer & I have placed the folder for the update storage directly on the root of c:\ on my windows xp machine but still nothing, I have gotten to the point where wget is running and it spends som time doing what looks like downloading updates but then spits out an error message and the folder for the updates is empty. I have included below the log file(attachments do not allow the extension "log").

Does this wsus offline actually require a wsus server in any way??

Antivirus/Firewall active, blocking net access for WOU components ?
Do you use GDATA, Kaspersky or M$ Antivirus ?

As previously said, please try the most recent version, maybe something in your older version is broken. Use a new directory/folder, don't overwrite the old version. Is this version able to download files ?

Ill use the latest version and temporily disable antivirus, I had not considered antivirus, Ill also disable the firewall (though I did allow an exception) and Ill get back to you with the results.

I have disabled the firewall, disabled the avast antivirus, useed the latest version 6.9 running xp sp3 & pointed it to a folder on the c: root drive using the usb stck option and received this.

I use Avast myself but that's not causing problems here. Do you use the Windows firewall or do you have another firewall ?
Although inactive, a separate firewall may still block or filter network access for certain programs as they are usually interconntected with the transfer protocols.

Questions:
Does the command line interpreter window open - the small blackscreen windows with lots of information displayed ?
If yes it should first try to connect to our website to check for an updated version, then to some sites loading misc programs needed for wOU to work, then Microsoft for loading update database, update programs and patches/servicepacks.
Do you see the weblinks resolved into IP adresses ?
