Not installing all updates but no missing update found

Not installing all updates but no missing update found

Postby Matosh » 24.08.2016, 07:56

Hi guys,
I try to install the updates with WSUSOffline 10.7.3 on a Win 8.1 Pro machine, with an update level from 2014, since a week now. But it installs only 12 updates in total and reports no missing update found while there were dozens of updates more to install.

- It starts to install several updates but hangs after a restart at the login screen.
- When I log in as admin the script continues, I restarted manually
- I have to log in as admin manually and the final report was shown
- then the script surprisingly continues it work, but didn't install new updates
- no missing updates appears in log while but in total only 12 updates installed.

2 months ago I updated the same machine with same 2014 OS image and update level using WSUSOffline 10.6.3 without any issues. I know that Microsoft restructured update distribution significantly but should there a way to update an offline system to the latest patch level somehow.

Here are some log-files:

- Update Summary of the 2014 OS image (updates installed): https://www.dropbox.com/s/f8ntr1zw8nki3 ... 0.txt?dl=0
- The script I used for creating the offline media: https://www.dropbox.com/s/2nanx4afd8vop ... t.cmd?dl=0
- Logfile of the Updatecreator for download and offline media creation: https://www.dropbox.com/s/bqwi28r16hdwt ... d.log?dl=0
- Logfile of wsusofflineupdate: https://www.dropbox.com/s/421lje1tfgbav ... e.log?dl=0 (note that the logfile contains also the logs of the initial OS image where WSUSOffline v9.0 was used for update installation in March 2014)

Any hints or suggestions welcome!

Ciao
Matosh

Try without "/excludesp" while downloading. Windows 8.1 Update 1 and the November 2014 roolup are treated as Service Packs.

I've tried and downloaded/created a new offlinemedia with "/excludesp" parameter. Still the same behavior like before.

You should create one WITHOUT "/excludesp".

Of course I tried it without "/excludesp" ;-)

Ok, your previous post said, that you did with that option.

Do you have a new log file (wsusofflineupdate.log) for me?

Here are the log-files from the built without using "/excludesp" option:

- The script I used for creating the offline media: https://www.dropbox.com/s/gkohum94z16bz ... p.cmd?dl=0
- Logfile of the Updatecreator for download and offline media creation: https://www.dropbox.com/s/qnm8npcuezy3c ... p.log?dl=0
- Logfile of wsusofflineupdate: https://www.dropbox.com/s/zry2p5rxen3uv ... p.log?dl=0

Did you resetup the machine after the "/excludesp"-attempt?

If not:
Please manually install the packages listed in .\client\static\StaticUpdateIds-w63-upd1.txt. They are downloadable from here: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?LinkId=397994
Reboot
Do the same for the upd2-file. Download-link: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... b09b752d6f

Please tell me, if any of the packages apllied to your system.
Then retry wsusou.

Yes, I re-installed the 2014 image before I applied the WSUSOfflineclient (built without /excludesp).

I'll try to manual install the static updates and post the results later..

I re-imaged the system and installed the static updates w63-upd1 and w63-upd2 manually. All installed successfully, however not all listed under updates installed - link updates installed: https://www.dropbox.com/s/oqe5j22pbo81l ... 2.txt?dl=0

Then I applied the WSUSOfflineclient (built without /excludesp), but like before only a few updates were installed - see log: https://www.dropbox.com/s/mw65apsxz38dw ... 2.log?dl=0
