Starting from scratch with 10.8.1

Hello.

I am running 10.8.1 from Windows 10 x64. I have a long running 23GB+ WSUS folder that is working perfectly. Now the time has come to drop support for older things and I created a newer WSUS installation from the zip file. To my astonishment I cannot enable "Verify downloaded updates" as usual because, as soon as I do that, I get the following error message:
Server file no newer than local file `../client/wsus/wsusscn2.cab' -- not retrieving.

Verifying digital file signature of Windows Update catalog file...
Warning: Deleted unsigned file "D:\TMP\WSUSOFFLINE\client\wsus\wsusscn2.bak".
Warning: Deleted unsigned file "D:\TMP\WSUSOFFLINE\client\wsus\wsusscn2.cab".

Any ideas?

PS - I think I have seen this error before but I don't remember how to fix it.

More weirdness...

Manually downloading the cab file worked for me BUT... if I delete it (to force it to redownload, because I have changed DNS servers and flushed DNS cache) the program just issues and error and exits.

I want to test if changing the DNS servers (currently using OpenDNS), has any effect on which file is server to you by MS servers.

Ideas?

If it says "ERROR: File integrity verification failure.", delete the file wsusoffline/client/md/hashes-wsus.txt as well.

The download directory and the hashes file must always be synchronized; otherwise you will get this error message.

The hashes file will be rebuilt on the next run.

Curses!

It is still not working after changing DNS nameservers.

I will do the "manual" route then.
