Ich habe den WSUS Offline Updater 10.2 nach Anleitung in der c't 23/2015 entpackt, geöffnet und eingestellt (Win7 64bit/Updates verifizieren/MS Security Essentials/Windows Essentials/Windows Defender Definitionen).

This one is easy:

The virus definition files are somewhat notorious: The download often fails, and then the presumably damaged files are deleted, either directly after the download, or while verifying the digital file signatures.

But there are no other files to download for "Windows Defender Definition updates"; it's just one file for 32-bit and another file for 64-bit. So the folder ../client/wddefs/ and its subfolders will be empty.

Using hashdeep on empty folders creates empty hashdeep checksum files.

But hashdeep doesn't like empty files used as a reference while doing its auditing. So this error can be easily reproduced:

You should just delete the empty file ../client/md/hashes-wddefs.txt and try again.

Hello! I just deleted the empty file ../client/md/hashes-wddefs.txt and tryed again.

First Try:
But now it says in cmd window: Download failure for dotnet x64-glb.
(Well I checked the option to include c# runtime libraries and .NET frameworks this time)

Second Try:
Without that option it seemed to work while I was writing this (got almost 20%), but again it stopped with the old error message "Error: Download failure for win glb".

Any additional help? No need for me to write extensive explanations, just what to do. My expectation was to save time and effort...

The script uses several external utilities to do the actual work:

• wget to download the files
• SysInternals Sigcheck to verify digital file signatures
• hashdeep to calculate and verify file checksums

The output of these utilities is usually written to the command prompt window only. It can not be easily duplicated to appear in the download log as well. This means, that some important information and the possible cause of the errors are missing from the download log.

So, it would be helpful, to always get the last messages from both places:

• from the download log (this is what you did)
• from the command prompt window (this is what Antilles provided). You can use the context menu to select and copy the text from the window.

This means, that there is something wrong with the structure of the file package.xml, and the script fails to extract the needed information.

This would be consistent with the report viewtopic.php?f=3&t=5225 . His report goes on behind the first error, but this depends on the parameter /exitonerror.

But this part of the script didn't change between recent versions of DownloadUpdates.cmd; so maybe Microsoft has changed the file format of package.xml again? This has happened before.

The problematic version seems to be the very latest version of wsusscn2.cab on the server:

So if I got you right the error occours because of changes at the Microsoft sources.
This would affect many other users of your software too I think, but I miss the corresponding amount of people here in the forum stating the same problem.

What's your advise? Waiting for a fix / update of WSUSoffline and returning to the conventional update methods either with Update packages from CHIP or Winfuture or the built-in function of Windows7?

I don't exactly know. There once was a similar problem, which resolved itself after a few days. Microsoft just used the old format again. Then, after some excitement, nothing really had to be changed. But this is something our chief programmer has to decide.
