ISO creation fails repeatedly

ISO creation fails repeatedly

Postby benmarko » 24.08.2014, 14:42

Tried repeatedly to create .iso on three different operating systems - Windows XP SP3, Windows 7, Windows 8.1. Each time the WSUS Offline downloads the updates successfully, but creation of the .iso containers fails. I have tried manually downloading the mkisofs.exe file and manually placing it in the bin folder, this has not worked either.

For now I use Folder2iso to manually take out the updates and package them in .iso containers. Then I run the updater on my physical machines (Windows 7 Enterprise), and upload the .iso containers to my vSphere datastore for importing into our Windows WSUS server so I can update our virtual machines (Windows 7 Enterprise and Windows Server 2008 R2).

Has anyone else had problems with creation of the .iso containers in WSUS Offline? I've tried re-downloading the application and that did not work. Help!

Please post the content of .\log\download.log in [code]-tags.

Any error message visible inside the command promt of the ISO creation?

I have tried manually downloading the mkisofs.exe file and manually placing it in the bin folder, this has not worked either.

Is mkisofs.exe missing?

No, mkisofs.exe downloads fine, I thought maybe the file was being corrupted on download. All it tells me is that mkisofs.exe failed. It happens each time I choose that option. It then goes on to the next WSUS download, so it doesn't affect that part of the application.

AFAIK you can't take just any mkisofs.exe you find. To the best of my knowledge, some important options did change at a time so recent mkisofs versions cannot be used.

Did you use the one from this URL?

I used the link provided in the application. What version should I try using?

You're using the right one, but please answer the following question/provide the log file:
