Ok lets start this from the start friend has a windows 7 ultimate 64 bit machine he brought it here for me to fix what i did was install more ram and formatted the hard drive . I tryed to reinstall his windows only to find out it was counterfeit so to bypass and get a few newer updates ( he wants to run old stuff thats why its 7 ) i found wsusoffline for him . Got the exe and installed it on mine ( windows 8.1 ) got the updated secutiry files only dont know where to put them ? ( where do i put them ) also will this help him ? all drivers are still in it i didnt have to readd them i want him to be able to add any app he has at home for it . PLEASE HELP as im lost on what to do next for him other then giving up myself and if i do it will never see use again im sure

1) wsusou is designed to install security relevant updates onto a target machine. In your case a Windows 7 one.

You have to configure UpdateGenerator to download the updates for Windows 7. Then copy the client-folder to the target system (it is unimportant, how you do it) and run UpdateInstaller and follow its instructions (!).

2) wsusou does not download or install any driver (see the referenced topic from above). You have to manually install them (Driver DVD, Internet research, Windows Update; that would be the order I'd use).

3) Which apps are you talking about? Windows 7 just supports Win32 executables, not the new ModernUI apps. Please tell me, what you want to install. I'll try to help you with it, even if it is off-topic as it is not concerning wsusou directly.

4) Files stored on the device: if you formatted the HDD, everything is wiped. No file is left and (if you did it the correct way) cannot be restored. The format-command cannot be undone.

Small addendum: WSUS Offline Update will not help you with your licensing problem. You need to acquire a genuine Windows 7 key. Please note that Windows 7 has a 30 day grace when freshly installed, it is completely genuine during that time and can thus install almost all updates. Only a few (like MSSE) need an activated and validated Windows to install.

ok I did fresh install it says I have 3 days till im unactivated. I have it hooked to my net to see about those updates and its stuck at looking for update and will move no where under installed updates.I have 2 days till it expires Ill let it sit overnight but last night I did same thing and nothing could there be a virus in the memory I opened the box and remove the mem. for 5 min that did nothing still had all the same divers installed as the other day . hmmmmmmmmmm when i look it shows i need to install nothing strange not like xp last time i knew how to do anything on these computers lol . What do I do Now Im at aloss I dont know what to do next

Look again, it says "3 days until automatic activation". It just attempts to activate by itself (which will fail without license).

You won't go to the "Notification" (=Unlicensed) state until 30 days have passed. You'll get a progressively increasing number of messages by the OS until then.

Installing KB3172605 manually might help (it contains the latest WU Client). Then the searches should only take a few minutes.
