""=="" was unexpected at this time error

Postby Macphisto » 07.01.2011, 18:17

I've been getting this error with every update that WSUSOffline attempts to install since moving to the 6.7.1 version. It forces me to find the update, unpack the .cab and install the update manually then rerun the Updater. The updater then fails on the -next- update. Any thoughts on how to fix this?

Thanks.
Macphisto

Hi!

I've never heard about this before.
Anyone else?
For analysis, it would be nice if you find out more details, i.e. where the error occurs.

Hi and welcome, Neb,

thanks for the command window output.

I still wonder where the difference is between your system(s) and mine:

I'll try to get an English Office pack the next days, but I don't think that's the reason...

Sorry for the long delay in my response. I've been trying to find any additional data I can.

The machines that fail with this error message are all stand-alone machine with security settings set to the NISPOM standards as defined by the US DSS. In short, it's basically a locked down local security setting, small registry tweaks, and some file access permissions and auditing.

Each machine is running Windows XP sp3 with either Office 2003 or Office 2007.

Unfortunately I cannot pull screenshots or logs off the machine to post. I've used WSUSOffline on these machine successfully in the past, but with the latest versions, I can't seem to get it to run. This error is thrown before the first update is applied.

Please let me know of any information that would help.

Thanks
Mac

Hi Mac,

thanks for info.
I just tried again to reproduce this error on an XP SP3 enu + Office 2003 enu VM, but I failed (it worked):
Code: Select all
Starting WSUS Offline Update (v. 6.7.2+ (r215)) at 16:18:22,18...
Determining system's properties...
Found OS caption: Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Found Microsoft Windows version: 5.1.2600 (wxp x86 enu sp3)
Found Microsoft Office 2003 Word version: 11.0.5604.0 (o2k3 enu sp0)
Checking user's privileges...
Checking medium content...
Medium build date: 17.02.2011
Medium does not support Microsoft Windows (wxp enu).
Medium supports Microsoft Office (o2k3 enu).
Checking Windows Service Pack version...
Checking DirectX version...
Checking Windows Update Agent version...
Checking Windows Installer version...
Checking Windows Script Host version...
Checking Internet Explorer version...
Checking Microsoft Security Essentials installation state...
Checking Windows Defender installation state...
Checking Office Service Pack versions...
Installing most recent Office Service Pack(s)...
Installing update 1 of 1...
Verifying integrity of ..\o2k3\enu\Office2003SP3-KB923618-FullFile-ENU.exe...
hashdeep.exe: Audit passed
Installing ..\o2k3\enu\Office2003SP3-KB923618-FullFile-ENU.exe...
Checking state of service 'automatic updates'...
Verifying integrity of Windows Update catalog file...
hashdeep.exe: Audit passed
16:27:15,80 - Listing ids of missing updates (please be patient, this will take
a while)...

Then, because of the suspicious
Code: Select all
Settings\Temp\Office2003SP3-KB923618-FullFile-ENU""=="" was unexpected at this time.

message posted above, I copied the whole CD content to the Desktop and started the updating procedure from there, but it still worked.

So I've still no idea what's going wrong on your machine(s), and as long as I don't understand it, I can't do worthwhile modifications to the code, of course.

Sorry & regards

Maybe posting the content of wsusofflineupdate.log from your windows directory could shed some light on this problem.

Settings\Temp sounds a little strange for a temporary folder (at least missing the username), what's the username on this machines? Does it use any special characters ?

The full path should be

"C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Temp"

So it looks like the path is truncated at the last space character.

I fully understand. I hope my posts haven't come off as complaining. I've greatly enjoy WSUS Offline and hope to continue to do so!

Here is the exact error message I receive:

Verifying integrity of ..\ofc\glb\mso_b8763a56843a2533045b4c856cb6fbfe2689d015.cab
hashdeep.exe: Audit passed

Settings\Temp\mso_b8763a56843a2533045b4c856cb6fbfe2689d015.cab""=="" was unexpected at this time.

I'm using a DVD that has both the Windows XP and the Windows 2003 Windows 2007 updates on it. Under the "Create ISO image(s)..." area I have "[] per selected language, 'cross-product' (x86 Desktop only) selected. If it might provide more information I can try using the per selected product and language ISOs.

Thanks
Mac
