Did you solve the other issues you had, and did you try the suggestions mentioned in the other threads? Assuming it's about the same Windows system, this error is probably related to the other issues, meaning it doesn't make sense to try to fix or work on them independently. IMO.

Error 0x8000FFFF is an unspecified error AFAIK. Start by trying in this MS KB article which begins with the Windows Update troubleshooter.
