Windows Home Server Updates

For anyone who wants the URL's for the WHS v1 updates, the below three (actually 5) were missing from the HP server recovery disk v3.0 (dated 9/09). These are the ex49x/x510 disks.

Power Pack 3 consisting of KB968349 (PP3), KB969949 (Windows Search 4.0), & (KB969949) Hotfix for Windows Search 4.0
Code: Select all

The other two are post Power Pak 3 rollups 1 & 2
Code: Select all

If anyone is updating with the 48x v2.0 HP server recovery disk released 11/08 containing Power Pack 1, you will also need to add KB956587 (Power Pack 2), and updates KB963032 & KB972421.
Code: Select all
http://download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/software/crup/2009/03/whs-kb956587-v1-x86-enu_75b8f603b0586a735124c79a256bef44cd0d3484.exe

Note that PP2 does not contain the updates in PP1, and PP3 does not contain the updates in PP2. But from their individual descriptions from MS, they may contain the post PP updates released in between. In addition, each PP must be installed on top of the earlier version.

Lastly, surprised that I couldn't find Windows Search 4.0 or it's hotfix already downloaded in any of the w2k3 client folders. Did I miss it or is it not typically part of the downloaded updates?

Doing the UpdateGenerator rerun to grab the WHS updates and try another install with all the fixes in next.

I went to a w7x64 terminal to use UpdateGenerator and copied the entire wsusofline9.2.4 folder I've updated and kept on a thumb drive to it's desktop. Here is the result of attempting the download for the .NET 4.0 updates:
Code: Select all

Also the WHS updates didn't appear to download. I looked for them in .\client\w2k3\enu. is that where they should be?
I pasted in the URL's to .\static\custom using the naming convention StaticDownloadLinks-w2k3-x86-enu.txt
Using Notepad++ I made sure I hit enter after the last URL was pasted in so the curser was sitting on a clear text line below the last URL. However, when I reopen the note pad, the curser is sitting up on the first line.

I'm still very new to this. Is that the way it should be?

3) Done for the three .NET 4.0 updates. Regarding the three .NET 2.0 updates and the missing Silverlight update. I am presuming I would place them at .\client\dotnet\x86-glb and the Silverlight update in in .\w2k3\enu: I have the URL's for them. Would that be correct?

Ive also attempted to add the WHS updates to .\static\custom\StaticDownloadLinks-w2k3-x86-enu.txt and .\client\static\custom\StaticUpdateIds-w2k3-x86.txt. They didn't appear to download. I looked for them in .\client\w2k3\enu. Is that where they should be?

When I added them, I pasted in the URL's into .\static\custom using the naming convention StaticDownloadLinks-w2k3-x86-enu.txt using Notepad++. Make sure to use the correct line endings for each operating system:

  • carriage-return and line-feed for Windows
  • line-feed for Unix and Linux
  • carriage-return for the "classical" Mac OS 9

Let Notepad++ display all invisible characters, including spaces and line endings, to get everything right.

The Windows Notepad.exe does not recognize Linux line endings; you will see just one long line. Only recently, there was an update for Notepad.exe to display Linux files correctly:

Introducing extended line endings support in Notepad

Much appreciated, thank you. I am using Windows (6.1)

Show all revealed several <CR><LF> returns. So deleted all, moved went to the last character in the last URL line, hit return and then a space. Giving that a shot.

I've created an ISO for Windows Home Server
Tested inside VirtualBox 5.2.20 and working fine here.

Checksums:

wsusoffline-w2k3_whs-glb_2021-05-01.iso
Code: Select all
Size:   8297013248
MD5:    98bf58aafb2e14b9223593cf01ce4265

It‘s a modified version of wsusou 6.7+ (r672/r673) with additional support for updating Windows Desktop Search and installing the Windows Home Server rollups.
It also contains optional updates (as listed by Windows Update MiniTool) and the past-EOS WannaCry-fixes for Windows Server 2003 x86.
It has one known bug, I wasn‘t able to fully fix as I wanted it to fix:
If it tells you, that the installation of „windowsmedia10-kb3033890-x86-enu_<sha1>.exe“ failed to install with errorlevel 1603, manually install the „windowsserver2003-kb3033890-x86-enu_<sha1>.exe“ from .\w2k3\enu instead.

[EDIT]An updated version fixing the autoreboot-issue is available.[/EDIT]

[EDIT2]
A second revision supporting all languages of WHS is available.

Some WHS rollups for different languages are missing.
The base OS will be fully updated afterwards.
[/EDIT2]

[EDIT3]
hashes for verification now included
[/EDIT]

Changelog:
initial: initial version
2018-11-06: fixed autoreboot issue
2019-05-16: added KB4500331
2019-12-05: added hashes for verification
2019-12-09: added support for the initial WHS version [build 1500.0]
2021-05-01: added WHS PP2 for CHS, CHT, DEU, ESN, FRA, JPN; added PP3 for ESN; added post-PP3 rollups for ESN

Aktuell noch nicht. Will aber versuchen, eine zu erstellen (Problem: Viele Links sind nur noch auf Englisch auffindbar).

Viele Grüße
