Can't install IE11 on Win 7

Can't install IE11 on Win 7

Postby brace » 11.03.2016, 15:26

Hello.

I tried to use wsusoffline to solve a problem i have with WIndows Update.
Years ago i changed the Windows update settings on my Win7 machine (i do not remember exactly what i did) and as i try to install i got failure.

Basically I am stuck at IE8. I think somehow i disabled the Internet Exploerr updates.

Anyway I tried with WSUS Oddline Update 10.6 Generator checking all the options.

As i run the generated UpdateInstaller.exe file i first see this

Code: Select all
Warning: File ..\w61-x64\glb\IE11.Window6.1-x64-it-it*.exe not found.

After the process ends i see

Code: Select all
Info: Skipping update kb982861 (Internet Explorer 9) due to matching black list entry.
Info: Skipping update kb2718695 (Internet Explorer 10) due to matching black list entry.
Info: Skipping update kb2841134 (Internet Explorer 11) due to matching black list entry.
Warning: Update kb2141092 not found.
[...]
Any missing update was either black listed or not found. Nothing to do!

Ending ESUS....

I copied the above manually.

Please let me konw how to workaround the "black list" and "missing update" problems

Thanks!

Hi,

it seems you are using an italian version of Windows 7 and did not add the language support for italian (ita):

.\doc\faq-enu.txt hat geschrieben:
Q: I miss IEx, .NET and MSSE installation files for my language. Why aren't they downloaded and what can I do to have them downloaded?
A: Since Service Packs and updates for Windows Vista / 7 / Server 2008(R2) are multilingual, there's no 24-language selection table for these platforms, so by default, only the English and German versions of those localized installation packages for IEx, .NET and MSSE will be downloaded.
To have your favorite locale(s) downloaded in addition, you may use the ...\cmd\AddCustomLanguageSupport.cmd script.

Thanks, i located the script in the folder, but it is not clear how to use it.

How do i tell the script i want to use italian? I mean how ot edit the ...\cmd\AddCustomLanguageSupport.cmd file to add italian in the languages?

It is not straightforward. Thanks.

Code: Select all
adding support to ira for .NET custom URL files...
adding support to ira for IEx custom URL files...
adding support to ira for MSSE custom URL files...

This time i did not have the warning for missing italian file, but this problem remains:

Code: Select all
Info: Skipping update kb982861 (Internet Explorer 9) due to matching black list entry.
Info: Skipping update kb2718695 (Internet Explorer 10) due to matching black list entry.
Info: Skipping update kb2841134 (Internet Explorer 11) due to matching black list entry

How to solve this?

Thanks

There is nothing to solve, this are Info: messages.

Please see .\doc\faq-enu.txt:
.\doc\faq-enu.txt wrote:Q: Can I exclude patches from download and/or installation?
A: Yes, that's possible through customizing the download- and update scripts according to your requirements. You may add new patches or exclude existing ones. Please follow this guide:
[...]
2. Excluding updates from installation
Once again you have to make a difference between statically defined and dynamically determined updates.
[...]
b) Dynamically determined updates
To exclude dynamically determined updates from installation, insert their knowledge base ID (KBxxxxxx or simply xxxxxx) into the file "ExcludeList.txt" (directory .\client\exclude). These updates will now be ignored; and you'll receive a warning in the log.

The following updates are already excluded:
- kb816093 (Security update for Microsoft VM)
- kb951847 (.NET Framework 3.5 SP1 Family Update (will be explicitly installed if selected))
- kb890830 (Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool (MSRT))
- kb931125 (Trusted Root Certificates (will be explicitly updated if selected))
- kb2917500 (Revoked Root Certificates (will be explicitly updated if selected))
- kb926874 (Internet Explorer 7 (will be explicitly installed if selected))
- kb940767 (Internet Explorer 7 (will be explicitly installed if selected))
- kb944036 (Internet Explorer 8 (will be explicitly installed if selected))
- kb982861 (Internet Explorer 9 (will be explicitly installed if selected))
- kb2718695 (Internet Explorer 10 (will be explicitly installed if selected))
- kb2841134 (Internet Explorer 11 (will be explicitly installed if selected))
- kb976002 (Browser Choice)
- kb923618 (Office 2003 Service Pack 3 (will be implicitly installed if required))
- kb2526086 (Office 2007 Service Pack 3 (will be implicitly installed if required))
- kb2687455 (Office 2010 Service Pack 2 (will be implicitly installed if required))
- kb2817430 (Office 2013 Service Pack 1 (will be implicitly installed if required))
- kb936929 (Windows XP Service Pack 3 (will be implicitly installed if required))
- kb914961 (Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (will be implicitly installed if required))

When i start Update Installer I get:
Code: Select all
If not already present, the most recent version
of Internet Explorer (IE11) will be automatically installed
on this system, when you start the updating process.

now i do not have anymroe blacklist entries, i see "Installation of Internet Explorer 11" running but after the upgrades ends and after reboot i still see IE8 on my system.

I am totally stuck, any advice?

Try to install IE11 manually. Maybe then you will see a message which describes, why the installation can not be done.
You can find the installation in: ..\wsusoffline\client\w61-x64\glb\IE11-Windows6.1-x64-it-it.exe
or at: https://www.microsoft.com/it-it/downloa ... x?id=40901
