Win 8.0 > Win8.1 Upgrade

Win 8.0 > Win8.1 Upgrade

Postby Dennis » 01.12.2014, 23:20

Is there away that the updater can handle the main update traditionally done through the Microsoft Store (which seems to just download the Win8.1 ISO & install the upgrade)? It takes HOURS as we all know for each computer to have to download the ISO and then do the setup. Would save tons of time to just have a local archive of it to install from... Any thoughts?

Granted, most computers are now coming preloaded with 8.1, however there are still some that are simply 8 & the ones that have optional upgrade from 7 to 8, the includes discs are only 8.0

Thanks,

Currently I used the rtm windows 8.1 iso. Would you say this is the standard retail iso?

The ISOs downloaded by the MS tool are newer than the original RTM ones, they are "with Update", at least (Update = the April one).

No, Windows 8 is Kernel 6.2 and Windows 8.1 is Kernel 6.3 - both are treated as being separate OS by both MS and WSUSOU. MS just grants you the right to upgrade for free if you are a Retail or OEM customer (but not a Volume license owner). The process is a complete OS upgrade (Setup) and thus cannot be handled by WSUSOU (OS upgrade is usually an interactive process).

Ah, I see... Okay, then is this then something that WSUS can just trigger & still require the interaction?

No; wsusou isn't able to do anything like this. The upgrade you want to run, is (nearly) a complete Windows Installation, no update.
