You don't need to check the log file every time. wsusou will print the result to the console and it will return a specific error level. Interesting for you are 3010 (reboot required) and 3011 (reboot and recall required).
Wer Rechtschreibfehler findet, darf sie behalten oder an den Meistbietenden versteigern. / Everybody finding a misspelling is allowed to keep or sell it.

The video shows Updating by a very old Version (7.2), but it shows the pricipal behaviour.
