[Solved] Windows 10 missing KB4345418

[Solved] Windows 10 missing KB4345418

Postby espenu » 20.07.2018, 07:51

When downloading Windows 10 updates the KB4345418 update does not seem to be downloaded using version 11.4.

Although Win10 v1607 (which this update seems to be made for) is no longer supported by Microsoft, we use an iot enterprise LTSB version of 1607 that will be supported until at least 2021.
So I hope I will still be able to get updates for this version.

Windows 10 LTSB 1607 is still supported by wsusou.

Windows 10 IoT was never officially supported by wsusou. I don‘t know, how the enterprise IoT build get updates, but if it‘s done similar to the IoT Core for Raspberry Pi, wsusou will not be able to install updates.

It seems to work well for all other updates. I've been testing on a virtual machine, and it installs several updates. It's just that when I connect it to the internet after wsusoffline is done, there is one update left that windows update installs, and that's KB434518

Apparently, this is an optional update. The support page https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/hel ... -kb4345418 doesn't mention security fixes, and it doesn't mention WSUS as a download option:

How to get this update

This update will be downloaded and installed automatically from Windows Update. To get the stand-alone package for this update, go to the Microsoft Update Catalog website.

But WSUS Offline Update relies on the WSUS catalog file to build a list of updates, and this only includes security updates: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=172

The Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer (MBSA) will probably show, that actually no security updates are missing: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=7651

You could possibly copy the download URL from the Microsoft Update Catalog website and add it to the static download descriptions of WSUS Offline Update yourself. The basics are in the file wsusoffline/doc/faq-enu.txt.

That explains a lot. Thank you very much :-).

To my understanding KB4345418 is not the official 1607 x64 Cumulative Update from July Patch Tuesday - it a later released preview (fixes in these previews go into the next official August Patch Tuesday Cumulative Update which is then again available in WSUS) - the official CU for July is KB4338814.

However on my 1607 LTSB test machine it looks like the following three updates are also not downloaded and installed:

KB4338814 = 2018-07 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems (official 1607 x64 Cumulative Update from July Patch Tuesday)

KB4338832 = 2018-07 Security Update for Adobe Flash Player for Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems

and

KB4033393 = Microsoft .NET Framework 4.7.1 for Windows 10 Version 1607 and Windows Server 2016 for x64 (also from 2018-07)

Is this again a MS issue with the Update catalog file and whom do I need to contact to fix this?
