BITS vs. WGET

BITS vs. WGET

Postby irmandos » 13.02.2013, 18:18

I have recently started working with BITS (+BranchChaching) in various Windows 7/8 systems and started making BITS downloads a part of my life.

I was wondering what would the impact be if you added updates downloading via BITS in your scripts (on systems that support it e.g. Windows Vista and up) instead of using wget.
BITS allows for the local caching of downloaded software (windows updates) and allows downloading from other peers in the same subnet when available over downloading directly from the source.
This should make downloading of updates much more faster on networks with BITS enabled computers connected to it.

Hi!

I wonder what the benefit would be to use BITS/BranchChaching, because this software is designed to save bandwidth by "download once - install anywhere".
