Can not update windows 10 1803 using the offline tool.

Can not update windows 10 1803 using the offline tool.

Postby matthewatlants » 04.06.2019, 20:56

Hello,
I have the following problems using the WSUS offline tool, I download all the updates for windows 10 and save the folder to a USB memory stick but when I open the folder and run the tool it tells me that the device is not supported.

Also when the tool does work and I run the tool it only updates the windows defender and also only install one update, when I run windows update all the update are listed. I need to get the tool to work as I have slow broadband.

Any help would be great.

Thanks.

Please post the contents of C:\Windows\wsusofflineupdate.log of the affected machine.

Did you run UpdateInstaller again and again until it said "Nothing to do", rebooting the system between the runs (as WSUS Offline tells you to do)?

Hello,

Thanks for getting back to me, first I download the lateset version of the offline tool and downloaded all the updates for windows 10 64 bit and this when fine, I ran the tool and it worked fine, the only problem I faced was that the offline tool did not install the following, updates (KB100347), (KB4346084), (KB 4023057), (KB4499183), (KB4503286), (KB4503288), (KB4052623).

Any help would be great.

Thanks

If these are non-security-critical updates, then WOU does not cover them. The catalog provided by MS only contains security-critical patches, a catalog containing all updates does not exist (publicly).

KB4100347: Microcode update => discussion about implementing it as an extra is active
KB4346084: Microcode update
KB4023057: update for preparing Windows upgrades => won‘t be implemented into wsusou as it‘s not security-relevant
KB4499183: 2019-05 optional update => not security-relevant
KB4503286: 2019-06 security update => please check the date of the signature of .\client\wsus\wsusscn2.cab and post the date here
KB4503288: 2019-06 optional update
KB4052623: optional update for Windows Defender

The only update wsusou missed is KB4503286; it would be helpful, if you post the date, when .\client\wsus\wsusscn2.cab was signed (see „Properties“->“Digital signature“).

Technically possible, but it would require you to collect all update URLs, to build and maintain the static update lists yourself.

It is not possible to get all updates in an automated way, as Microsoft does not offer any catalog containing everything, only the one we're using right now.
