Delete updates

Postby Chase106 » 31.05.2019, 10:29

Hi, correct me if I'm wrong, the updates are downloaded to .\client\wxp folder (version 921). If so, can i delete from the folder the updates i don't want to be installed? The wsusoffline will work with the "missing" updates?

The IT create for me custom windows xp updates (some exe files without kbxxxx), can i add them to the .\client\wxp folder and add command to the .\client\software\custom\InstallCustomSoftware? What command will be the best to work with?

You could, but that would break the next download run because WSUS Offline (or rather hashdeep) calculates hashes of all updates. These are verified before a new download run and if any file is missing or added the check fails.

Therefore, it's better to add any updates you don't want to the exclude lists; see FAQ in wsusoffline\doc\faq-*.txt for details on how and where to do that.

Again, no, because of the hashes. Add custom updates to a static list, i.e. wsusoffline\client\static\custom directory (see FAQ for details).

add command to the .\client\software\custom\InstallCustomSoftware? What command will be the best to work with?

Yes, that would work, too. But you'd have to find out the commandline switches yourself and add them to this script.

Try WSUS Offline Update 9.2.4 ESR instead of 9.2.1.

It corrects some problems with missing updates in Windows XP. It also adds some WannaCry patches, which were released as custom updates for Windows XP in 2017.

The latest custom updates from 2019 are not included, though.

Windows XP used the installers rootsupd.exe and rvkroots.exe to update root certificates. To download these files, you could create a file wsusoffline/static/custom/StaticDownloadLinks-win-x86-glb.txt with the content:

Code: Select all

It's a long process to add all the updates to the exclude lists, it's easier to delete all the unneeded updates.

They will be re-downloaded, should you ever need to do another download. Plus, you will run into issues with the checksum lists WOU creates (CRC check will fail and abort the script).
