Windows 10 Home not updating completely

Windows 10 Home not updating completely

Postby brundleflyguy » 29.10.2018, 11:38

After I run WSUS Offline on machines with 10 Home 1803, I then run Windows update manually and I notice that I often have to download:
KB4462933 - 2018-10 Update
KB4100347 - 2018-09 Update

Shouldn't WSUS Offline install these? But when I look in the shared folder where I store all the updates that WSUS Offline downloads, I can't find either of these updates.

What am I doing wrong?

No, WOU will never install these. MS usually issues two W10 updates a month - one on the second Tuesday and one usually two weeks later. Only the one issued on second Tuesday is security-related!

In other words: As WOU only installs security-related updates, only those are included. The other update is a pure feature / bugfix update. The former is included in the WSUS catalog, the latter isn't. Simple as that.

Ok, perfect! So that means, from a security perspective, once WOU is complete, I don't have to worry about updates until next month?

WSUS Offline Update gets the system to a secure level (technical explanation: Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer (MBSA) will tell you the system is secure). From a security perspective, you're good to go (assuming MS didn't f*ck up their catalog). Let WU update the rest at your leisure (or not). You will get the fixes for the bugfix update next month, then (they are cumulative).
