Win 7 x64 Windows update

Win 7 x64 Windows update

Postby KES » 19.07.2018, 02:32

When running the update installer for a Win 7 X64 machine with SP1 I get an ERROR: 6801. I tried to attach an image but board attachment quota has been reached

It says Error: 6801 Transaction support within the specified resource manager is not started or was shutdown due to an error.
installation of ..w61-x64\glb\windows6.1-kb(and the long ass file name).cab failed (errorlevel:6801)

I used the same update info on another stand alone machine and the process ran clean.

The only differences between the machines are some of the file permissions and security specifications have been modified to support special requirements. The machine that ran clean is has default security and file permissions.

The office updates and .net ran perfectly on both machines.

Does anyone one have any ideas on what needs to be changed or adjusted to get the updates to work?

Unfortunately you left out the important part: the KB number of the update in question. Also which special permissions and which security specifications are modified?

I inherited the machine from previous admin so not exactly sure which file permissions were modified. I have a set up book and it looks like it was audit permissions that were modified, I do not think that should affect the update function.

The rest of the modifications were changed in with gpedit and I have been reading the changes to see if there is something that could affect windows update.

With regards to the KB numbers, there were 48 that gave the 6801 Error on all of the changes that were attempted to be installed. The 3 I can see on the screen capture that I wanted to attach are:
KB 3101722
KB 3092601
KB 3097989

I get a list 45 remaining tomorrow when I am back at work.

The update worked great on a different stand alone computer, but the one giving me troubles has been made more secure with permissions to support a proprietary need.

CHKDSK and SFC were good

I have a screen capture if I can get permission to upload or I can message it or email it.

So this is about more than one update that fails installation. Please pack the files %WinDir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log, %WinDir%\logs\dism\dism.log and %WinDir%\WindowsUpdate.log and upload them somewhere and post the link to it here. These files allow further analysis of the issue (although probably not by me, but there are other more competent people here ;)).

An update to my installation issue Errorlevel 6801

the SMB logs showed an error 0x80071a91 ERROR_RM_NOT_ACTIVE.

All the resolutions I could find did not remedy my inability to update.

I just decided to rebuild the system an the offline update worked like a champ.
