[SOLVED] Monthly rollup not installing

[SOLVED] Monthly rollup not installing

Postby drcouzelis » 26.02.2018, 20:21

I use WSUS Offline Update on a small network of Windows 7 64-bit computers every month. The computers do not have a connection to the Internet. The last time I updated the computers was on January 30, 2018.

I ran WSUS Offline Update today to get the latest updates. This includes the "February 13, 2018 KB4074598 Monthly Rollup" (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/hel ... -kb4074598). But when I run "UpdateInstaller.exe", no updates are installed...

Is this to be expected?

...to make things more confusing, if I download the February Monthly Rollup (mentioned above) from the Microsoft Catalog and install it manually, it WILL be installed. Why does it install when I do it manually but not when I use WSUS Offline Update?

Since the machines are offline, they might miss the QualityCompat registry key that's required since January, to get updates through WU or WOU. While installing, WOU will show a warning line if the key is missing.

QualityCompat has to be set by Antivirus programs, that, of course, only works while being online. Bu you can set it manually.

Code: Select all
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\QualityCompat]
"cadca5fe-87d3-4b96-b7fb-a231484277cc"=dword:00000000

Save as anything.reg and import it on the off line machines. Then, updates should be applicable to them, again.

Yes, that fixed it!

Now I see the message in the "wsusofflineupdate.log" file: "Warning: Quality compatibility registry value is not set". I remember reading that news, but I didn't make the connection between the two events.

The same WSUS Offline Update build is now installing four new updates, including the one I mentioned.

Thank you very much, boco!
