I recently ran the offline update on a 64 bit win 7 ultimate laptop and got no new updates, I ran the same offline update on win 7 pro or enterprise and I have updates, is this normal ? Why would ultimate not have updates if the other variants of win 7 do?

_____

I have on ultimate 64 bit os laptop that for the last two updates haven't needed any update however my other win 7 pro and enterprise have , wouldn't hey need the same updates? I don't understand why the ultimate has needed none the last two months.

Windows 7 Ultimate gets exactly the same updates as all other Win7 SKUs.

Please download and run the Windows Update Troubleshooter, it usually repairs the damage: http://aka.ms/diag_wu

There could also be a security software that's blocking WOU (most probably by locking the user or system TEMP directory).

i went back a reran and noticed this appears as its checking for missing updates:

A certificate chain processed, but terminated in a root certificate which is not trusted by the trust provider.. then it continues on and says no new updates.

How old is the update level of that machine? MS released a new root certificate, while the one that originally came with Windows 7 is expired. As only updates with a valid verified signature will be even touched by Windows, that's the reason why no updates are found (the catalog is also signed but cannot be validated).
Usually, the certificate is obtained automatically if the system is online. Sometimes that fails (because of offline state or a firewall). Then, you need to update it manually.

"aker" posted the necessary files "rootsupd.exe" and "rvkroots.exe" here: viewtopic.php?p=21885#p21885
Run at least the rootsupd.exe file and wait a minute, as it won't give any visual feedback about success. Then, try to search again.

where do I see what the update level on the machine is? The system is a standalone offline so its didn't automatically obtain the cert. Also the links you sent me are blocked by my firewall so do yo have any suggestions where else to get the certs if if needed.

is there are particular place to look for on the computer to see what cert is loaded and where do I get the most current cert so my offline update can look at the cmd\liastmissingupdates.vbs and find updates to install. Ive been all over google but can get an answer that im ready to run with.

You can look up cerificates in the Certificate Manager (certmgr.msc).

To update certs, the preferred method is the rootsupd.exe posted by aker.

In the linked topic, I posted three MS certificate dumps. Save them as files with a .cer extension and you can import them to the cert store. Please use the "Root Certificate" category when being asked.

i checked the certs by going to certmgr.msc and noticed Microsoft root authority 2010 and one 2011 i believe from looking at others there should be two 2011 so i tried and import the cert from the link you provided and it said it was import successfully however it didn't show up. I tired multiple times but it never showed up .
