Win 7 doesn't seem updated

Re: Win 7 doesn't seem updated

@lola:
According to MsiExec.exe Error Messages error 1636 means ERROR_PATCH_PACKAGE_INVALID
Code: Select all
This patch package could not be opened. Contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer patch package.
and 1642 means ERROR_PATCH_TARGET_NOT_FOUND saying that the program that this update should patch is not on your system.

To check the former error you should verify that the vcredist setup files are correct. To do so, you can check their signature by going to Properties > Signatures tab.
Since the latter message occurs when trying to install .NET updates your system is probably missing the correct .NET version.

Thanks for the reply.
I don't see anything strange in the signatures tab. When I go to show certificate though I notice that the certificate has expiration date 28/1/2017.
Any ideas?

The expiration date doesn't really matter. Important is whether or not the system sees the file's signature(s) as valid. If so, then the file is OK, and you can try to install it manually; perhaps that will give some more details on the issue.

I couldn't install it manually but I installed manually the 2017 version which I guess is the latest one right?

It's the latest, but please be aware that older VC++ runtimes ARE NOT superseded/replaced by newer ones! There's one exception to this rule: VC2017 supersedes VC2015. That's why WSUS Offline downloads 2005, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2017.

Please note that the VC++ 2010 package errors are the result of the inability to overwrite the existing ones. WOU should actually REMOVE the older package of that type (2005, 2008, 2010) before installing the new one.

From what I know, C++ 2013 and newer does that by itself, but not the older ones.

Thanks for the help.

I get the same authentication errors, I don't remember the exact wording, like the package is not valid.

So I should remove them from the Control panel, right?

If the signature of these packages is valid, the error message is a red herring. I have done it myself: Uninstalling the packages beforehand allows to install them without error.

I am having the same problem as Lola. I have run Generator and installer, I have rebooted and nothing shows in Installed updates. I even ran installer again and added net t=framework and silverlight in case I'd run it wrongly the first time.

I have been trying to run Windows updater and it just stays and the checking for updates stage.

This is the only log I could find, can some one help? The laptop belongs to an elderly relative who doesn't want to upgrade to a new machine. It's 32bit Windows Home Premium SP1with only 3GB
