Windows Vista x64 hangs - KB3153171-x64

Everything installs perfectly until it gets to the following update:

KB3153171-x64

From there it just hangs for hours (five hours and nothing). Windows Update is on "Never search for updates". I don't know what could be causing this? I'm updating a Windows Vista Home Premium x64.

The worst part about this is waiting for it to revert because it didn't update properly. Is there a way to install the updates in small batches?

Maybe some incompatibility betwee two updates?
Do you have a log (C:\Windows\wsusofflineupdate.log)?

Unfortunately, I didn't get a log, but I think it's some incompatibility. The PC was a Toshiba laptop.

I tried the same updater on a newly installed Windows Vista Business (on a Dell pc) and it installed without a problem.

KB3153171 for Vista is obsolete as it is superseded/replaced by newer updates - KB3175024, KB3191256 & KB3198483. Install any 3 of these new updates and you do NOT need to install the KB3153171 update.

The update you need to resolve the "never ending search for updates" problem for Windows update is the latest WIN32K.SYS update for March 2017 - KB4012497, which replaces/supersedes KB3204723.
