Does updating versions mean rebuilding repositories?

Does updating versions mean rebuilding repositories?

Postby whambo » 25.01.2017, 00:15

I apologize for being blunt, but...

Let's say I update from version 10.8.1 to version 10.9.0

Does this mean I will have to download all 200 + updates (as well as SP1) again and rebuild my local repository?

Do you all realize how time-consuming that is?

Please clarify, and once again I apologize for being blunt about this. Thank you.

No, it doesn't. Updating WSUS Offline is simple by extracting the new version's archive in the directory of the existing one, overwriting existing files in the process. All other files that are not part of the WSUS Offline archive will stay where they are, including all downloaded updates.

If one extracts the new version to a different directory, well, that's a different story... This way can be taken as well, but it's more work and not really necessary.

Ah, thank you for clarifying that. So building the repository is a one time thing only.

And can I use the same USB stick on three different machines?

One is a 32bit Windows 7 Ultimate
The other is a 64bit Windows 7 Professional
And the last is a 64bit Windows 8.1 Professional

How would that work?

If need be, I can use three separate USB sticks if I have to.

You can use it for the three machines, if you downloaded w61, w61-x64 and w63-x64.
