Failed updates listed

Postby Eddy » 21.12.2016, 14:23

Hello,

I just formatted my PC with a fresh install.

I use Windows 7 Home premium SP1. I tried with Windows Update "checking for updates" during one week non-stop. I did not find an update.

I just installed updates via Wsusoffline, with updateGenerator and updateInstaller.

Many updates are now listed in the update history. Even many are successful, there are a lot listed "failed".

I tried WindowsUpdateAgent, and WindowsUpdateDiagnostic. I also tried to delete failed updates in C:windows/software distribution

One more week, my PC stayed on windows update for one week, checking for updates, and hoping Microsoft Windows Update would fix the issue automatically.

Nothing worked, and the failed updates stay in the updates listing. There are more failed updates than successful updates.

Is there someone knows how to fix this issue ? Please explain the procedure.

Thank you very much !
Eddy

Wait, they show in "Windows Update History"?
Then they were not installed by wsusou. Please try the following:
- set Windows Update to "Never search for updates"
- retry wsusou
- post the last part of wsusou's log file (C:\Windows\wsusofflineupdate.log)

Thank you very much Aker for your answer. I followed your instruction.

Few days ago, running Wusu, I saw in the command box "download updates" and also "installing updates.....". Before using Wusu, Windows Update did not download updates at all, always "checking for updates" without success. What I can understand, Wusu downloaded updates, but for a Windows reason, Windows update refused to install certain updates. When I retry Wusu, it tells all the updates are present, even they are failed. That's the point I really don't know what to do now.

Thank you again Aker for your help.

Here is the log and also an image showing the failed updates.

Not necessarily. There are some MSU updates in WSUS Offline, and they of course show in Update History.

@Eddy:
According to the log excerpt you have the latest Update Agent - this is good. Does WSUS Offline work for you now? Does Windows Update work now? Does any of them find missing updates?

@Dalai
But the most of them not. If I set up a new machine using wsusou, there are less than 15 updates listed there.

@Eddy
It looks like, WU tried to install at the same time, wsusou did. Could you retry wsusou again?

Hello guys, thank you very much for your answers.

I retried Wusu offline installer, disconnected from Internet: It tells "no missing update found".

I clicked Windows Update: It tells "Windows is up to date".

It looks like Wusu see the update in the listing, but does not see that they are "failed" and nothing try to reinstall the failed ones.

Finally:
I tried again classic tools: "Windows Troubleshooter": There is a windows update error (attached jpg below)
I tried "WindowsUpdateAgent 7.6-x64": Though, running Windows update and resulting by appearing the same message saying "Windows is up to date"
I tried "WindowsUpdateDiagnostic": The same error appears: error 0x80070005

Here is the last log of Wusu:

Now, I do not know what to try to install the failed updates. It is the third time I format this laptop trying to get the updates, but resulting with always the same update errors.

Is it possible that Microsoft only want you to install Windows 10 and not offering a real surveillance of Windows 7 update installation ?

If you have any idea or a magic software to fix this issu.

Thank you again guys, your answers are very appreciated.

Check, if the failed updates are listed under "Programs and Features -> List installed updates"?
If not, continue with this "guide".

Try installing this one: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/947821
Reboot and execute:
Code: Select all
sfc /scannow

Reboot again.
Do the manual steps described here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/971058
Again (what else) reboot.
Then retry Windows Update.

The 80070005 windows update error is usually described as Access Denied. Most often, people just let it pass and try running the process again at a later time. But if you're in a hurry, you can just use SubInACL (downloadable from the Microsoft Download Center) to correct it. There is a code text you can find online that you can simple copy-paste into a notepad file. Save the notepad file with a .cmd extension in a location easy to find later. You can then simply run this file as administrator (right click for the menu) and your problem is solved! I just found the solution here - http://errorcodespro.com/windows-7-10-u ... ss-denied/
